How to use flea dust in the house: powder, soap. How to dilute and process - instructions.

Flea dust is a popular and affordable insectoacaricidal agent. It is also used against bedbugs, cockroaches and other pests, but it is more effective against fleas. These insects are known for their miniature size and jumping ability. They can get into the apartment from basements, entrances, they can be brought on shoes and clothes. Fleas multiply very quickly and disturb the peace with their presence. They spoil the aesthetics of the room and bite hard, causing itching and painful lumps.

There are several ways to get rid of them. Dust can eliminate pests effectively and in the shortest possible time.

Dust: composition and properties

Dust is an effective insecticide, which is produced in the form of a fine crystalline powder of gray (sometimes yellowish) color. The active ingredients of the drug are fenthion and deltamethrin. The composition often contains auxiliary components, including talc and compounds that attract parasites.

The dust is completely diluted in organic solvents, but upon contact with water it forms an emulsion. It is interesting that the Swiss chemist P. Müller received the Nobel Prize for the discovery and study of the properties of the insecticide.

How to destroy flea and lice larvae?

Folk remedies, as well as chemicals offered to customers in finished form, are suitable for eliminating larvae.
Dust - what kind of remedy is it in terms of the effectiveness of flea control? Can they destroy the larvae? If you use a special version of the composition correctly, it is possible to get rid of parasite larvae, since they eat various organic residues. Lice dust, or rather soap, is considered one of the most effective remedies. Its effectiveness has been proven by time, and it is also certified by scientific research carried out in specialized laboratories. Do not forget that using dust soap is associated with serious risks, since its main component is dangerous for children.

In the last century, everyone used dust. No one asked what it was, since it was considered the only way to combat nits and lice. The cost of a piece of such soap was insignificant, and it was possible to get rid of parasites in 1-2 times.

The principle of operation of the product

This insecticide belongs to the group of cumulative poisons. The product remains on horizontal surfaces for a long time. Small particles of dust stick to the covering tissues of fleas and get inside the parasites. As the insecticide accumulates in the body, it causes paralysis and then death of insects.

Particles of the substance do not adhere well to vertical surfaces.

If you treat the floor with the solution, the effectiveness of the product will remain for 1-2 weeks.

Universal rules

You don't know where to buy dust? In a specialized store you will be offered dry powder, a ready-made solution, as well as a mixture with other chemicals. Fleas have a narrow food specialization, and therefore it is much more difficult to fight them than, for example, cockroaches. They do not eat poisonous baits; you can get rid of them only with two types of substances:

  • Aerosols or sprays that penetrate into the body with air. Such means help to clear the room of adults within twenty-four hours.
  • Suspensions or powders that enter the parasite’s body through the integument.

Instructions for use

Fleas parasitize the body of warm-blooded animals, but do not always live on the skin. More often, bloodsuckers settle near a food source, for example, they hide under parquet flooring, in cracks on the floor, behind baseboards, in rooms with high humidity (in the bathroom, in the kitchen).

Fleas hide under hardwood floors and in cracks on the floor.

Dust powder can be used in different ways:

  1. Sometimes the cracks in the floor and the space behind the furniture are filled with a dry product and left for a while. This method is suitable for treating non-residential premises. If there are children or pets in the house, leaving insecticide on the floor is dangerous.
  2. The powder can be diluted with water, after which the resulting emulsion can be used to spray furniture and wash floors. For residential buildings this method is more preferable.

Contraindications and side effects

Delcid is a product for fighting fleas and other ectoparasites, as well as for disinfestation and decontamination in rooms with cats. The developer of the drug formula is the organization "Agrovetzaschita" (Moscow region). Delcid is used by owners of cats, dogs, poultry and other pets.

NVC LLC "Agrovetzashchita" is the leader in Russia in the production of veterinary drugs

At the veterinary pharmacy, I was told that such small packages are most often purchased by dog or cat owners, as well as those who simply need to get rid of fleas (for example, those living on the first floor, especially in late spring, when insects are active). But farmers and livestock owners buy a different package of the drug.

Bottles made of metal or plastic with a volume of 1 liter, 1.25 or 1.3 liter are also available. The rarest form of release of this drug is canisters of 3, 5 or 20 dm3. In a veterinary pharmacy near my house, Deltsid in 2-ml ampoules costs 165 rubles per pack (5 ampoules), and a liter bottle costs 1,750 rubles. They explained to me that the price may depend on the release date of the batch.

Deltsid is available in several forms, but cats are given Deltsid in 2 ml ampoules.

Composition of the drug

Delcid contains the following components:

  • pyrethroid deltamethrin - 4.0% (active ingredient);
  • twin 80;
  • neonol;
  • nefras.

Tween 80 is used in veterinary drugs and protective products due to its ability to make fats and oils soluble in water. And nefras (interpretation: petroleum solvent) is needed in order to then dissolve these same oils. The surfactant (surfactant) in Deltsid is represented by neonol. Delcid owes its color to this substance.

Deltamethrin is an analogue of natural pyrethrin used in the production of insecticides

Delcid, like any veterinary drug, must be stored under conditions recommended by the manufacturer. Firstly, the storage location must be inaccessible to children and animals. The drug should not come into contact with food or animal feed. Secondly, the storage location should be away from heat and moisture, and sunlight should not fall on the packaging. Ideally, this is a first aid kit located in the closet on the top shelf.

It is important not to forget about shelf life. If all specified conditions are met, then Deltsid will be valid for 2 years from the date of issue

When the expiration date has expired, the ampoules and box must be disposed of. You will have to throw away the drug earlier even if you stored it without following the listed rules.

Deltsid is stored at temperatures from 0°C to 30°C. Most of my friends store such products in the refrigerator, but I have a special first aid kit for this. I store all flea and worm remedies in sealed bags so that they do not come into contact with medications and vitamins. By the way, it is better not to throw away the boxes before the expiration of the possible shelf life. If all the markings on the ampoule are erased, you simply will not be able to check the suitability of the product without outer packaging.

Delcid causes paralysis and death of ectoparasites

Deltsid is used for infection with the following types of ectoparasites:

  • sarcoptic and ixodid ticks (including demodex);
  • sexually mature lice and fleas;
  • bed bugs;
  • fluff eaters, lice eaters;
  • flies, horseflies and mosquitoes.

Deltsid is most often prescribed to cats because of ticks or fleas. But in some cases, the cat may remain uninfected, while the parasites live in the apartment or house. For example, this happens on the first floors of old houses. In the spring, insects emerge from basements, and owners of four-legged pets are afraid that their cat will “catch” parasites. In addition, Delcid can be used for preventive purposes.

Contraindications for the use of Delcid in cats:

  • weakened conditions;
  • exhaustion (including after illness);
  • hypersensitivity to Delcid components;
  • second half of pregnancy.

If you use the emulsion strictly according to the recommendations, there will be no side effects. If the cat is hypersensitive to the components of the drug or an overdose occurs, the following phenomena may occur:

  • lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting;
  • swelling, lacrimation, increased salivation;
  • disorientation (disturbed gait, etc.).

In such cases, you need to contact a veterinarian. The specialist will check the animal’s condition; if necessary, the cat may be prescribed symptomatic therapy. The cat owner should remember that this drug is not recommended for further use.

If the cat's behavior/condition changes after using Delcid, its use should be discontinued.

Types of flea dust

Different companies produce this insecticide, adding certain auxiliary components to the composition.

"Double"

The drug is available in powder form, packaged in convenient packaging. The main active components are esfenvalerate (concentration is 0.01%) and zeta-cypermethrin (0.02%). The product also contains piperonyl butoxide, which acts as a synergist and increases the effectiveness of the insecticide.

The product “FAS-Double” is intended for the destruction of fleas.

"Baygon"

The product is intended for eliminating fleas and lice at home. Propoxur is used as the active component (concentration - 1%). The composition contains special additives, thanks to which the dust adheres to the integument of insects. The drug can accumulate in the body of warm-blooded animals, so it must be used carefully.

"Tornado"

A universal remedy that can be used to combat any crawling insects. The composition contains cypermethrin, boric acid and talc as a filler. 150 g of insecticide is enough to treat 100 sq.m. The drug is characterized by a low level of toxicity and is safe for pets, therefore it is often used to clean pets’ bedding and beds from fleas.

“Tornado” is a universal remedy for all insects.

"Clean house"

One of the most popular products, which is available not only in powder form, but also in the form of ready-made emulsions and chalk for treating vertical surfaces. The active components of the insecticide are malathion and permethrin. The drug retains its properties even when the room temperature increases or decreases.

Methods of using dust

a) Dusting (ground pollination)

Dusting (ground pollination) in the eighties of the last century was used mainly when processing plants with dense leaf cover. This method is currently used extremely rarely in agriculture.

b) Pre-sowing treatment of seed material (dry dressing)

Currently, powders for seed dusting are widely used for pre-sowing treatment of seeds and pre-planting treatment of seedlings/seedlings in the fight against plant diseases and to protect seedlings from damage by soil-dwelling pests. In this case, the proportion of the active substance can reach up to 90%, and the filler is used only in small quantities to improve the grinding of the drug and prevent caking during storage.

How to use home cleaner

Instructions for use:

  1. Before the procedure, you need to move the furniture away from the walls and carry out a thorough dry cleaning with a vacuum cleaner.
  2. The prepared dust solution is used for cleaning floors. It is important to carefully treat baseboards and cracks.
  3. Hard-to-reach areas of the room can be sprayed with a spray bottle.
  4. Upon completion of the procedure, the windows and doors to the room must be closed. It is not recommended to enter the premises for the next 6 hours.
  5. Later, it is recommended to wash working surfaces (tables, shelves, window sills) and door handles with a warm soda solution.

Before cleaning your home from fleas, you need to move furniture away from the walls.

Breeding methods

The powder is diluted with warm water - the substance will lose its properties in a hot liquid, and will not dissolve in a cold liquid.

Dosage:

  • with a slight degree of infection, take 20 g of the drug per 1 liter of water;
  • if the flea population is large, then the dose can be increased to 40 g per 1 liter.

Application of dust soap

Dust soap is used to remove blood-sucking parasites that live on the skin of dogs and cats. The method of application is simple: first you need to wet the animal’s fur, lather the skin and leave the foam for 15-25 minutes. After this, it is recommended to rinse off the remaining product thoroughly.

Dust soap is one of the available, effective insecticides.

Recommendations for using dust against insects

Unlike other powdered products, dust for fleas, bedbugs, cockroaches and other parasites is used only in dry form, not otherwise. Processing sequence:

1). Preparing the space for processing. Remove everything unnecessary from the rooms, securely pack food in film, limit access to the room for children and animals. Provide personal protection: use rubber gloves and a gauze bandage or respirator.

2). Since we are dealing with powder, you can use a brush to spread it. You need to start sprinkling from the back side of carpets, baseboards, thresholds, and don’t forget the facing panels.

Next, sprinkle cabinets, chests of drawers, doorways, and ventilation grilles. Pay special attention to shedding of upholstered furniture. Try to sprinkle the powder into the joints, cracks, joints, and gaps between parts of the body.

3). When the entire room has been treated, the dust will need at least 3-4 hours to complete its task of killing bedbugs. It is recommended to leave the premises at this time. Also, be sure to wash your hands and face, change clothes (wash your work clothes). When you return, start airing the rooms and start cleaning.

To clean smooth and other surfaces, you can use a soda-soap solution; this should also be done while wearing gloves. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean upholstered furniture. As for small cracks, spaces under thresholds and baseboards, the dust should be left here so that it continues its protective and preventive function.

4). The dust is not particularly toxic and is practically safe for people. But since inhaling even minimally poisoned air is still undesirable, it is still better to leave the treated premises for a while.

Danger to humans

If you follow safety rules, treating your apartment with insecticides will not adversely affect the health of residents or warm-blooded pets. But inhaling dust or accidentally getting it into the digestive tract is dangerous, because... may lead to an allergic reaction.

The active components of the insecticide can accumulate in the human body.

If the concentration of substances constantly increases, this can lead to the development of hepatitis, pathologies of the heart and blood vessels, diseases of the respiratory system, and muscle paralysis.

Negative effects on humans

A “clean house” is relatively safe

However, if precautions are not taken, the poison can harm living beings (in particular, humans and pets)

Toxic effects on people occur when inhaling insecticide vapors or through dermal contact with it. It has been scientifically proven that there will be no serious consequences for a warm-blooded creature when touching the poison. The maximum is a skin rash that will go away quickly. But if it enters the stomach, a group C carcinogen, which is tetramethrin, can cause the following symptoms of poisoning:

  • dizziness;
  • headache;
  • the appearance of an unpleasant taste in the mouth;
  • blurred vision;
  • vomit.

If one or more of the listed symptoms appears, the patient should get access to fresh air and take a sorbent. Even before the ambulance arrives, the drug will begin to act on toxins, break them down, and remove them from the body.

Features of integrated flea control

Dust powder is one of the most accessible, cheap and easy to use products. But to remove fleas, it is not enough to walk across the floor with a rag soaked in an insecticide solution. In such a situation, an integrated approach is important:

  1. Before treatment, thoroughly vacuum the floor, move furniture away, and treat corners and baseboards.
  2. It is important to clean all textiles in which fleas could lay eggs. Clothes, bedding, and bedspreads must be washed in hot water using disinfectants.
  3. To treat carpets, sofas and other upholstered furniture, it is better to use a steam generator, because... parasites die at high temperatures.
  4. Fleas are also sensitive to cold. In winter, you can take carpets and other textiles outside or leave them on the balcony for several hours.

Before treatment, you need to vacuum the floor.

Remedies for body lice

Getting rid of body lice is not as difficult as it seems at first glance. The most effective way to do this is with the help of chemical anti-pediculosis agents. They act for several hours and are available in the form of shampoos, washing powders, aerosols, ointments, etc.

What safe products can the insecticide market offer?

In pharmacies and household chemical stores you can find various remedies for clothing insects. Most are made with permethrin, an insecticidal chemical. We will select the most effective ones based on reviews on the Internet and instructions for them:

  • Akromed. A product for soaking things, diluted 1:50. For 1 kg of things, 5 liters of solution is enough. Soak items for 20 minutes, then wash. The product even destroys lice eggs.
  • Medifox. A kilogram set of laundry requires 5 liters of a 1:99 chemical solution. Soak items for 40 minutes, then wash. Destroys both adults and eggs.
  • Avicin. Dilute the product in water 1:99. For 1 kg of laundry, 400 ml of solution is required. During processing, all signs of the presence of insects are destroyed.
  • Celandine. The product is similar to the previous one and is diluted in the same proportion. Soak items for 20 minutes, then wash.
  • Foresight anti-louse. A strong chemical that is diluted 1:99. Soak items in 5 liters of solution for 20 minutes. Repeat treatment after a week.

Although these chemicals are recognized as safe, do not be too lazy to wash things after treatment and dry them in the fresh air. This way you will protect yourself from poisoning and allergies.

Quick remedies for linen lice?

If you find insects at home, it is clear that you want to get rid of them as quickly as possible. But even using the most effective products, you will have to spend 1-2 hours cleaning.

To get rid of parasites as quickly as possible, use A-PAR aerosol. It is produced on the basis of esdepalletrin and destroys lice within half an hour. To do this, just spray the product on your clothes, wait 30 minutes and wash the clothes. You can process not only clothes, but also furniture.

Another good remedy is Medifox-super. The concentration of the active substance in it is 4 times higher than in simple Medifox. To prepare the emulsion, mix Medifox with water in a ratio of 1:99 and soak the items for 15 minutes, then wash.

If you carry out the procedures correctly, you can get rid of insects in 1 day.

Will Dichlorvos help get rid of linen lice, and is it safe?

The first remedy that most users remember when they discover body lice is Dichlorvos. It is universal against various types of insects, strong and effective.

But can it be used when it comes to processing bed linen and clothing? In general, Dichlorvos can cope with parasites. It penetrates the respiratory tract of parasites and through their shells, causing a nerve paralytic effect. True, the product does not act on nits, and after a couple of weeks the treatment of things will have to be repeated.

If you decide to treat things with Dichlorvos, check if you are allergic to the chemical and take precautions. The whole procedure will look like this:

  1. Wear rubber seals and safety glasses, and make sure there is no food nearby.
  2. Take large plastic bags and put things in them.
  3. Spray the bags into bags and tie them tightly.
  4. Leave things for several hours.
  5. Wash items in a washing machine with powder and dry them outside or in a well-ventilated area.

Treatment with Dichlorvos can be carried out outdoors or by laying things out in the room.

Remember one thing: do not wear things until the smell of the chemical has completely dissipated.

Will anti-pediculosis medications help against bed lice?

Many people who have encountered linen lice try to fight them with remedies for head parasites. One of my friends seriously thought that she could get rid of clothes insects with shampoo.

Of course, she didn't succeed. There is a special category of aerosols and washing powders for processing laundry. They act much more strongly and are not intended for contact with the body. If body lice are infested, do not be too lazy to contact a pharmacy or sanitary and epidemiological station for special medications.

Dust selection criteria

When choosing insecticides, you need to pay attention to the following characteristics:

  • composition - if the powder contains substances that attract parasites, then the effect of its use will be more pronounced;
  • release form - aerosols are much more dangerous than soap and products for preparing emulsions;
  • hazard class – level IV products are considered relatively harmless; if the packaging indicates class III or II, it is better to refuse the purchase;
  • cost of the product - more expensive insecticides are not always more effective.

Characteristics

A piece of dust soap is a simple analogue of laundry soap, to which a certain amount of insecticide has been added. Some people confuse tar and dust soap. The second has no cosmetic properties; it can only be used to destroy domestic parasites. The use of tar soap helps improve the condition of the hair and scalp, but it will not help get rid of lice.

Previously, dust was used to exterminate various insects: pests and parasites. Even if there was no urgent need for this product, it was poured into all the cracks, behind sofas, under baseboards. Nowadays dust is rarely used; more often special aerosols are purchased instead. Scientists have proven the negative impact of this insecticide on the human nervous system, so it is practically not used to treat city apartments against parasites. For those people who are allergic to various chemicals, it is not advisable to use dust to kill bedbugs and fleas. Allergy sufferers may be advised to purchase special powder preparations that do not cause side effects.

However, it is far from a fact that modern analogues of the product in question do not contain even greater quantities of substances hazardous to human health.

Be sure to study the composition of the aerosol, as well as how to use it and the basic precautions that must be strictly followed to combat parasites

What precautions should you take?

Dust should be used carefully, following the safety instructions:

  1. For processing, you need special clothing that fits tightly to the body, as well as a mask, gloves and safety glasses.
  2. During the procedure, the windows must be opened - the room must be ventilated.
  3. Do not smoke, drink, or eat food while in contact with the solution.
  4. If you have pets, it is better to move them to another place for a few days.
  5. After treatment, clothes should be removed and washed at high temperature, and take a shower in case the product gets on your skin and hair.

Advantages and disadvantages of the drug

Of course, the popularity of the drug appeared for a reason, thanks to many advantages, many choose the battalion commander.

The benefits include:

Of course, like all other specialized means, the battalion commander has its drawbacks:

  • There is a rather specific smell.
  • Does not affect egg laying, destroys only adults and requires additional treatments.
  • Immediately after treating the apartment, wet cleaning should not be carried out, as this significantly reduces efficiency. This means that during this period people and animals must leave the premises.
  • High cost when compared with other drugs of the same series.

Reviews about the effectiveness of the drug

Olga, 54 years old, Astrakhan: “I treated the floors in the apartment with the product. The fleas disappeared almost instantly. Over the next few days, I vacuumed the room daily to pick up dead parasites from the floor, because... The effect of the dust lasts for more than a week. I am completely satisfied with the result.”

Igor, 47 years old, Rostov-on-Don: “I used the solution to treat the basement at the dacha. After the first procedure, the number of insects decreased, but they did not disappear. Another treatment was needed to completely remove the parasites.”

Anna, 35 years old, Kazan: “I spent a long time choosing the right product to fight fleas. Dust turned out to be the most affordable and easy to use. She treated not only floors, but also upholstered furniture and horizontal surfaces. After the procedure, the room was closed for a day. The parasites have completely disappeared."

Removing lice and nits with laundry soap

Laundry soap has good cleaning properties. And thanks to the alkali included in the composition, it gives a drying effect. This helps relieve the symptoms of lice, namely healing insect bites and reducing itching. In addition, soap can help remove the parasites themselves.

Soap contains alkalis that can perfectly dissolve any organic matter. This is the simplest method, which is essentially ineffective against parasites and can take weeks or even months. There are recipes when, to achieve results, laundry soap can be added to basic, stronger substances.

  1. Brown laundry soap and boric or mercury ointment. The essence of the procedure: you need to wash your hair thoroughly with soap, dry it and rub the ointment well into the roots. Then comb out lice and nits. The procedure is carried out twice a day for a week. It is better if your hair is shaved or cut short. Then it is easier to achieve the effect.
  2. Laundry soap combined with kerosene. To prepare the composition, dilute a third of a bar of soap with a 72% concentration in half a liter of water and cook in a steam bath until smooth. Cool until warm (about 50 degrees) and add kerosene (50 ml). Stir thoroughly. Apply the composition to the hair roots, distribute over the entire length, cover with a plastic bag and towel. Leave for half an hour and rinse thoroughly with shampoo. Hair that is still damp should be combed with a thick comb to get rid of dead lice and weakened nits. The procedure is carried out 1-2 times a week until the parasites are completely eliminated. To remove odor and nourish your hair, you can use a nourishing balm mask.

Such methods against lice and nits can take place if the disease is detected at an early stage. If there are a large number of parasites, laundry soap can be alternated with special shampoos and creams. This helps not only to completely cure head lice, but also not to damage the hair and scalp.

To prepare such shampoo, soap is grated on a fine grater and diluted with water. For better dissolution, the mixture can be slightly warmed, but not brought to a boil. The consistency makes it convenient for use. It would be useful to add olive oil at the rate of 18 grams per 200 ml of composition. This shampoo is suitable for any hair type.

Whatever method of removing lice and nits is chosen, the effectiveness and duration of treatment depends on the quality and frequency of combing out dead and weakened nit parasites. If at least one living nit remains, a recurrence of the disease cannot be avoided and treatment begins again. As practice shows, it is possible to cure pediculosis within a month; shortening this period leads to relapses of the disease.
