Trout is a fish of the salmon family, with delicious tender meat, and if you're lucky, also with caviar. How to choose a carcass, which with a high degree of probability may contain a delicious additive that can be salted at home - let’s figure it out together.

External signs that distinguish a female trout from a male

The first thing you need to understand is the differences between a female and a male. If a male trout is brought home, it is logical that the chances of finding eggs inside are zero. If you manage to buy a female, anything is possible.

Externally, the first thing we look at is the ratio of head to body size . In the male it looks more brutal: the head is disproportionately large, angular, and predatory in outline. The female has a small, round head with a slightly flattened, short, neat nose.

In this photo you can notice the differences in the ratio of the body and head

The male has a more predatory mouth . The lower lip is adorned with a growth called a fang, and it has many large, sharp teeth in its mouth. The female has a smaller head in relation to the body, a short nose, and a mouth without a fang. The teeth are smaller and fewer in number than those of the male.

This photo shows the difference in the structure of the jaws

In addition, the back of the “boys” is somewhat arched (but not a hump, just a rounded line). And in females it is more straight.

The differences in the shape of the back are obvious here.

Next we look at the color . As often happens in nature, boys look brighter and more elegant than girls. The male trout is darker and brighter. The color is contrasting - the pattern is clearly visible. This is the first way to prove to the female that he is better than others - at least more beautiful! The female does not need to prove anything, she is already beautiful, because she is a woman. Therefore, the coloring without a pattern is pale and modest, one might say, faded.

The picture shows the difference in color

Only the anus stands out in bright pink color. It protrudes slightly and is expanded, especially during the spawning period.

A prominent anus is a sure sign that the trout contains caviar.

Connoisseurs can also pay attention to the shape of the anal fin . In males it is straighter, while in females it is “curly”, with a slight cutout.

All of the above characteristics are suitable for choosing rainbow, golden, marbled and other types of trout. Their body structure is similar, the only difference is in coloring.

Why do you need to determine the sex of a hamster?

Not even every seller knows how to determine the sex of an animal. Therefore, it is much safer to do it yourself. This is especially important if you want to buy several individuals at the same time.

If you plan to breed animals, animals of different sexes are required. If the reproduction of animals is not part of a person’s plans, on the contrary, it is worth giving preference to same-sex animals. Hamsters, like any other rodents, reproduce very quickly.

When purchasing same-sex animals, experts advise giving preference to girls. Males kept in the same cage may fight and injure each other.

It is also important to be able to determine the sex of a hamster when purchasing one animal. Gender significantly influences the character and behavior of the animal. For example, males use scent to attract females. Therefore, their cages will have to be cleaned more often. At the same time, females are more active and can make noise at night. Gender determination is also important when choosing a name for a pet.

How to choose a female trout with caviar - determine by appearance

Having weeded out the girls from the boys, we move on to another task - finding a spawning female trout. We rely on our organs of vision and tactile sensations. Simply put, we look and feel. First and most importantly, we estimate the size of the fish’s body. This species of salmon reaches sexual maturity only in the third year of life, and after this it is hoped that the female may have eggs inside. You can judge the age by the length of the fish. It should be no shorter than 30 cm. By the way, at this age young males are not too different from females - bright colors, a predatory head and a characteristic body shape are acquired by men as they mature.

If the store has frozen fish

This kind of trout is, in a sense, a lottery. Unless, of course, you find a label, sticker, or any fish document on it, from which you can find out the date of catch. If it is indicated that the fish was caught in the net in the first half of autumn, it is likely that there is caviar in the abdomen. You won’t be able to feel it to be sure, as you do with fresh fish - only at home, after purchase. For frozen trout, the time of sale does not matter - only the date of catch.

By the way, if the fish was frozen with the formation of a large amount of ice crust, then the color cannot always be seen. Therefore, the degree of freezing is also important. You won’t be chipping ice in a store or thawing a carcass before purchasing.

How to recognize fresh or chilled trout with caviar when purchasing

You need to buy fresh fish from early September to mid-October. This is spawning time for trout. Before this time, the caviar will be immature - small, in small quantities and of little interest in taste. After October, you don’t even have to try to choose, because the spawned trout will no longer have eggs inside.

If in doubt, you can feel the abdomen: in the spawned female it is dense, larger (“bellied” fish). However, before probing, it would be a good idea to make sure once again that this is a female and not a male (remember - coloring, head shape and other distinctive features). Because the male belly is not empty during spawning either, but caviar is still tastier than milk.

Trout sellers also love “free” caviar. So they learned different tricks. The first is removing caviar without gutting the fish. This is done like this: through a small incision on the abdomen, the eggs are squeezed out of the ovary. After this, the “empty” carcass is placed back on the counter.

Be sure to inspect the integrity of the abdomen

The second trick is to change the shape of the male’s mouth (remove the “fang” from the lower jaw). If the buyer is inexperienced and chooses trout with eggs only on this basis, a skillful seller will be able to sell him such an individual, passing it off as a female with eggs. Only there will be milk inside. However, this is also a delicious product from which snacks are prepared.

Another tip for those who want to find trout with red caviar in the store. Size doesn't really matter. It is not necessary for a “man” to be larger than a “lady”. Sometimes females are larger.

Features of peacock behavior

However, peacocks are interesting not only for their external beauty; there are many features that are characteristic mainly of these birds. It is important for every person who decides to start breeding peacocks to learn about them.

Male before mating

In general, peacocks cannot be called monogamous; each male peacock strives to surround himself with a small harem of three or four females. Moreover, before mating, these birds live in fairly large flocks - up to fifty individuals. Small groups are divided into only a few months.

Interesting fact! Peacocks are pretty bad at flying. But they run very fast. Despite the massive tail, the birds actively maneuver in dense thickets - it is not so easy to catch up with them.

The peacock attracts females by staging rather brutal fights with competitors. At the same time, he emits loud, piercing screams that can be heard very far even in the dense jungle. By the way, the screams are very unpleasant for humans, but the female peacock gladly answers the call.

Peacock dance

When the female peacock is interested, the male moves on to the next stage of courtship - dancing. He straightens his huge, luxurious tail and begins to dance around the female, literally not allowing her to pass - wherever she goes, the suitor always ends up right in front of her. At the same time, the male quickly moves his paws and sometimes shakes his tail. The spectacle is quite exciting, although not without some comedy.

Peacock takes care of peahen

If the female believes that the male is handsome and large enough to fertilize her, she begins to follow him, waving her tail favorably.

Female in the process of creating a pair

In general, the flirting of a pair of peacocks is very similar to real flirting. First, the male spreads his gorgeous tail in front of the female, demonstrating his beauty, and the chosen one seemingly ignores him, digging in the ground and looking for something tasty. When the suitor gets tired of this, he may well turn away. Offended by this attitude, the female quickly rearranges herself, bypassing the potential partner to be right in front of him. Well, he has two options - turn away again, forcing his friend to circle around, or fluff his tail and demonstrate the seriousness of his intentions. The female may obey him or begin to ignore him again. Such a game lasts until mating occurs or something interferes with the flirting.

When is the best time to buy trout so that it contains caviar?

The best time to buy is the first half of autumn, then the presence of caviar in trout is very likely. The best option is to purchase live fish. The best place to buy is fish farms. But you should also take a closer look at the presence of cuts on the abdomen if the fish is no longer alive.

When choosing a whole carcass, you must take other features into account. Especially the degree of freshness of the fish. It should have a pleasant, fresh smell; when pressed, the pits will quickly level out. The eyes are bright and bulging.

You should not take trout if:

  • the smell of the carcass is stale, unpleasant or uncharacteristic. Perhaps they tried to “reanimate” it before selling it and washed it using odor-reducing substances;
  • the carcass is covered with unpleasant mucus;
  • The meat is easily wrinkled by hand, the pits do not disappear. This is a sign that the fish was most likely refrozen. And even if it contains caviar, it is unlikely to be of good quality, if at all edible;
  • eyes dull, sunken.

Differences between chicks

Parrots have a pronounced formation above the beak around the nostrils - a cere. Its color determines the sex of chicks at the age of 3-4 weeks. This is the main distinguishing feature for young individuals.

The cere of a female chick has the following differences:

  • the color is soft blue, light lilac or with a purple (pink) tint;
  • a light or white edging is clearly visible around the nostrils;
  • the color is heterogeneous, shades are always present (with the exception of albinos and show breeds).

The cere of a male chick:

  • color purple or with a bluish-turquoise tint;
  • the circles around the nostrils are absent or their edges are blurred and have a bluish tint;
  • uniform color.

Pink and purple color of the cere occurs in chicks of both sexes. In these cases, you need to look at the circles around the nostrils and the uniformity of color. This coloring is found in lutinos, albinos and other mutation species of parrots.

In chicks, the color of the cere may change throughout the day. To accurately determine the sex, breeders recommend taking several photos at different times of the day, and then carefully examining the shades.

Abdomen

First of all, inspect the abdomen for damage. Often sellers and fishermen make a small puncture or incision in this part to remove the eggs.

If you are convinced of the integrity of the carcass, then look at the fish from the front. In pink salmon with caviar, the abdomen looks thickened and compacted. Try pressing it lightly. If you feel a homogeneous compaction with a jelly consistency, then this is caviar. If pink salmon was caught during spawning, then when pressure is applied to the abdomen, eggs may come out of it.

Eyes and nose

A predatory expression in the eyes and a hook-shaped nose are characteristic of males. Females have a less aggressive appearance. They have no curvature in the nose.

Why do you need to know your gender?

The gender of guinea fowl will help you correctly form the tribe of birds you have. There are five times as many females per male. It turns out that for a herd of 20 females, only four males are needed.

Of course, in the poultry business, guinea fowl are considered the most valuable because they produce eggs from which the next generation is born. So the process of breeding birds goes in a circle, bringing constant profit.

Don’t worry, it’s not difficult for such a small number of males to fertilize five times as many females. In flocks of farm birds, polygamy is inherent by nature and selection, so the males are ready for exploits.

Consequently, if you take the word of a seller offering guinea fowl chicks for sale, but he turns out to be a deceiver and sells you males at the price of females, you will not only lose money at the purchasing stage, but also ruin the entire further breeding process.

Why is it so important to be able to differentiate?

Determining the sex of Ternetius is quite difficult, since the differences between females and males are not clearly expressed. However, this still needs to be done, since knowledge about the sexual composition of the school is necessary for further breeding of fish. Even if you don't intend to breed Ternetius, it's still worth knowing how to determine their sex.

The fact is that this species always lives in flocks - a lonely Ternetia will not live long. In a flock, complex relationships develop, which are based on the ratio of “girls” and “boys”. If the hierarchy is violated, then some individuals will chase and terrorize others, which is undesirable. To create a calm and harmonious environment in the aquarium, the owner needs to clearly understand the gender composition of swimming pets.

Recommendations

To eliminate errors, the sex of the parrot must be determined by several indicators, proceeding in the following order:

  1. Examine the wax on a young or adult bird.
  2. Take a series of photos if the parrot is young, and examine the shades of the beak and the circles around the nostrils.
  3. Observe the behavior of the bird alone and in communication with other parrots (if he is not alone in the cage).
  4. Listen to the sounds it makes - males make more noise and sing louder.

An important point is not to make hasty conclusions based on one indicator. There are many varieties of birds, and each bird, in addition to its physiological characteristics, also has its own character.

Budgerigars can live at home for 12-15 years. Therefore, it is important to immediately correctly determine the gender of a future family friend. To do this, you need to study its external features and behavioral characteristics in order to provide it with a decent life in the future and enjoy communicating with your pet.

Results

There are many ways to determine sex by primary and secondary sexual characteristics, as well as by the behavioral characteristics of each bird.

These include:

  • structure of the genitals;
  • beak shape;
  • features of the location and appearance of the scallop;
  • head position when walking;
  • color and shape of bird earrings;
  • sound of voice;
  • characteristic habits of birds.

Using all methods of sex determination in a comprehensive manner, you can achieve one hundred percent probability of correctly identifying a guinea fowl or guinea fowl among birds.
