Bars Forte drops for puppies against fleas and ticks 4 pipettes

Russian (AVZ) develops and produces medicines for domestic and farm animals. It produces insectoacaricidal products: sprays, shampoos, collars. An effective drug is “Bars” - drops against fleas and ticks for cats, the instructions for which must be studied before using the medicine. There is a product for treating kittens. It has a softer effect. "Leopard" kills not only adult ectoparasites, but also their larvae. The drug is also used to prevent infection.

Composition and pharmacological properties.

The drug contains fipronil, diflubenzuron - an insect growth regulator and excipients, including citronella essential oil. It has pronounced insectoacaricidal activity against larval and mature phases of development of fleas, lice, lice, ixodid and sarcoptic ticks, and also has a repellent effect.

After cutaneous application of the drug, fipronil and diflubenzuron, which are included in its composition, are practically not absorbed into the systemic bloodstream, accumulate in the epidermis, hair follicles and sebaceous glands of the animal’s body and have a long-term contact and intestinal insectoacaricidal effect.

The mechanism of action of fipronil is to disrupt the transmission of nerve impulses, which leads to paralysis and death of insects and ticks. The insect growth regulator disrupts the synthesis of chitin in parasites and thus breaks their life cycle.

Possible reactions, contraindications

Not all animals can easily tolerate the effects of the chemical components of Bars drops against fleas and ticks for cats. The medicine is contraindicated:

  • cats during lactation;
  • pregnant individuals;
  • kittens under 2 months old;
  • sick animals;
  • cats that have irritation or damage to the epidermis;
  • animals with individual intolerance to the drug;
  • cats with perforated eardrums (if drops are used in the ears).

Important! If several cats live at home, treatment for parasites is carried out simultaneously for all animals.

Practice shows that Bars rarely disrupts the normal well-being of pets. However, in some cases, a cat may develop:

  • skin irritation;
  • lacrimation;
  • muscle tremors;
  • nausea.

As a rule, these individual reactions of the body are caused by intolerance to any of the components of the product. To avoid allergic manifestations, a special test is performed during the initial use of Bars. Apply 1 drop of the drug to the cat’s skin (on the withers) and leave for 12 hours. If no reactions occur, the product can be used.

Doses and order of application.

Apply by droplet application to dry, intact skin once. The duration of the protective effect of the drug lasts for 1–2 months.

The drug is applied to places inaccessible to licking by animals: on the skin at several points in the back, between the shoulder blades or in the neck at the base of the skull in doses indicated in the table.

The minimum therapeutic dose of the drug for dogs is 0.18 ml/kg of animal weight, which corresponds to 9 mg/kg fipronil and 0.18 mg/kg diflubenzuron.

Taking into account the type and weight of the animal being treated, dropper pipettes of the required volume or combinations thereof are selected and the drug is used in the doses indicated in the table.

Type of animal, weight Dose per animal: drug/active ingredients, mg Pipette volume/number of pipettes used
Insectoacaricidal drops Bars Forte for puppies
up to 1 kg 0.18 ml / 9 mg fipronil

and 0.18 mg diflubenzuron 1.0 ml / 4 drops

from 1 to 5 kg 1.0 ml / 50 mg fipronil

and 1.0 mg diflubenzuron 1.0 ml / 1 pipette

Repeated treatments of animals are carried out according to indications, but not more than once a month.

In order to prevent re-infestation by fleas, the animals' bedding is replaced or treated with an insecticidal agent in accordance with the instructions for its use.

To destroy ixodid ticks on the body of an animal, the drug in the amount of 1 drop is applied to the tick and the place of its attachment to the skin. If within 20-30 minutes the tick does not fall off spontaneously, then it is carefully pulled out of the body with tweezers and destroyed.

You should not wash or bathe the animal in natural bodies of water for 48 hours after treatment, or apply the drug to wet or damaged skin.

Indications for use

Many people believe that Bars drops are effective against fleas and ticks (exclusively). However, this opinion is wrong. The drug has a wider spectrum of action. Indications for its use are:

  1. Entomoses. This is an infestation of fleas, lice and lice.
  2. Otodectosis. This is an ear pathology caused by microscopic mites.
  3. Cheyletiellosis. This disease is otherwise called stray dandruff. The pathology is caused by microscopic mites of the genus Cheyletiella, which feed on the keratin layer of the skin.
  4. Sarcoptic mange. The disease is also called pruritic scabies. The causative agent is the microscopic subcutaneous mite Sarcoptes canis.
  5. Notoedrosis. The disease is often referred to as cephalic scabies. The causative agent is the subcutaneous microscopic mite Notoedres cati. These parasites most often affect the scalp and the edges of the ears.
  6. Infection with ixodid ticks. This parasite reaches 2.5 mm. It can increase 10 times in size if it attaches itself to an animal. Ixodid ticks carry piroplasmosis, which is often fatal.

Drops can be used on cats from 2 months of age. If a pet lives on the street or goes for walks, treatment with an insectoacaricidal agent is carried out for prevention once every 2.5 months.

  • Frontline;
  • Practitioner;
  • Dana;
  • Rolf Club;
  • Mr. Bruno;
  • Advantix;
  • Celandine.

Before purchasing an analogue, read the instructions for use, paying attention to contraindications and side effects.

Reviews from owners and veterinarians

Most cat and dog owners note the high effectiveness of the product. According to some dog breeders, Bars drops begin to act on the second day and remain effective for 60 days. The majority of RuNet users note the ease of use of the tool. Some owners claim that the substance caused side effects in their pets, namely weakness and lethargy, and lack of appetite. As a rule, symptoms disappeared in the first few days after treatment and were caused by intoxication of the body due to an overdose or the substance entering the digestive tract.

Precautions when working with the drug "Bars"

When carrying out preventive treatment of an animal against ectoparasites, it is necessary to follow a number of simple rules in order to protect yourself from the action of insectoacaricide.

First of all, you need to:

  • wash your hands in soapy water after using the drops;
  • do not allow the animal treated with insectoacaricide to come into contact with small children for 2 days;
  • Dispose of drug residues and used pipettes according to the instructions for use;
  • Do not allow substances to be swallowed.

There are also precautions to minimize the side effects of the drug on the body of a cat. It is worth remembering that “Bars” drops should not be used by kittens whose age has not reached 2.5 months. It is also prohibited to use several types of antiparasitic agents at the same time. This can lead to serious overdoses.

Note! Pregnant and lactating cats are not recommended to use Bars drops, as well as animals that have recently suffered from infectious diseases.

Analogues of the drug

There are a number of antiparasitic agents for cats that have similar effects. The main analogues of Bars drops are products produced by the French company Merial - Frontline Spot On and Frontline Combo. The main active ingredient, as in the domestic drug, is fipronil.

In addition to Frontline, the following properties are similar to Bars drops:

  • Advantix;
  • Bleach;
  • Fiprist;
  • Amit;
  • Barrier.

Do not forget that treating pets against ectoparasites is extremely important not only for eliminating insects that annoy the animal, but also for the prevention of serious infectious diseases. It is known that ticks and fleas are carriers of dangerous diseases that can greatly undermine a cat’s health, and some can even cause the death of a pet.

Side effects from the action of Bars

Despite the fact that the drug does not harm pets, in some cases side effects may occur, namely:

  • general weakness of the body;
  • impaired coordination of movements;
  • hanging salivation;
  • lacrimation;
  • loss of appetite;
  • shiver;
  • skin reactions.

Monitor your pet carefully when the first symptoms appear. In most cases, side effects go away on their own, the main thing is to offer your dog or cat more to drink. If your pet's condition worsens and vomiting or seizures occur, visit your veterinarian immediately. Such symptoms indicate an overdose and a severe allergic reaction.

Security measures

  • Since the product is considered moderately dangerous for humans, the use of Bars drops for cats must be worn with gloves.
  • Do not touch or pet the cat for several hours, especially for children.
  • If the liquid gets on the skin or mucous membranes of a person, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
  • Dispose of pipettes immediately after use.

How to determine the presence of fleas and ticks?

First of all, the cat’s mood changes. He becomes irritable and restless, often itches and licks himself, and bites his fur. This should immediately alert the owner.

Next you need a visual inspection of the animal. Run your hand against the grain. Uninvited guests can be seen immediately, or, upon closer inspection, you can notice the products of their vital activity, which usually look like black or white specks in the undercoat.

Fleas and ticks not only cause significant inconvenience to a cat. They are carriers of other diseases and can cause a more serious illness in a cat. These insects multiply very quickly, so treatment should be started immediately.

Recommendations for owners

When working with the drug, we strongly advise you to follow the following rules:

  • You can eat and drink only after thoroughly washing your hands with soap and warm water.
  • In addition, during the first 24 hours after treatment, it is highly undesirable for small children to play with the pet. Some amount of the drug will inevitably end up on their hands, which the kids will just as inevitably lick off. The consequences will be very unpleasant.
  • Once again we warn you that opened pipettes should not be stored together with food.
