Aphids cause enormous damage to garden areas. The difficulty of exterminating it lies in the large number of insects. It will be difficult to completely get rid of the pest. However, you can protect your garden from aphids using proven means. We will talk about them in our rating.

Little pest

Aphids are a type of hemipteran animals that feed on plant juices. At the moment, more than 5 thousand species of these insects are known. These colonial animals are capable of secreting poison, which stops the growth and development of young seedlings.

Fighting it is very difficult, since aphids reproduce extremely actively, and can produce about 50 generations over the summer. In the fight against it, summer residents resort not only to preventive measures and “folk remedies,” but also to various insecticides.

Fufanon

Systemic drugs penetrate inside through the skin and esophagus, not giving insects a chance to survive. Fufanon belongs to this group of drugs. Aphid poison kills pests already during treatment. The protective properties last for more than a month.

On a note!

The product is available in the form of a concentrated liquid. It is necessary to prepare the solution immediately before use, but use is allowed within 3 days.

The active component of the product is malathion. A new generation insecticide that belongs to the class of low-toxic substances. However, if used incorrectly or in excess of concentration, they cause poisoning in people.

It is necessary to work with the drug in rubber gloves; spraying should be carried out in a respirator. It is forbidden to pour unused solution into the ground on an open surface; you must dig a hole for this.

Chemicals against aphids act quickly. The very next day you can enjoy the result. Repeated processing is not required to consolidate the result.

Why you need to fight aphids

Due to their high fertility, aphids can cause irreparable damage to all plants in a summer cottage. The harm it causes is extensive:

  • feeds on plant sap;
  • injures stems, buds and buds;
  • due to its activity, the plant dries out quickly;
  • leads to a decrease in yield;
  • prevents the plant from photosynthesizing;
  • the “honeydew” it secretes provokes the growth of sooty fungus;
  • is a carrier of viral infections.

Confidor

This is a systemic drug that has an intestinal contact effect. Its active components are introduced into every cell of the tree through the root system. Before use, dilute 1 ml of solution in 5-10 liters of water.

Confidor

A positive effect is achieved almost immediately after spraying. You can notice it within a couple of hours. With the help of Confidor, the created protection of plantings is observed for about 2 weeks. But this information will help you figure out what medications are needed for late blight on tomatoes.

Defenders

The best protection against pests is the smell of hot and spicy plants. The following will come to the rescue: onions, garlic, cilantro, rosemary, basil and mint. Neighborhood pests will bypass if you have a planting of fennel, horseradish or rhubarb on your property.

Ageratum, nasturtium, daisies, marigolds, petunias, poppies - these plants are capable of luring insects that feed on aphids. You can also build bark houses for lacewings, ladybugs, earwigs and some other predators. Combine business with pleasure: place bird feeders on your property. Passerines love to feast on plant pests.

Everyone knows that prevention is better than cure. Therefore, preventive work to combat aphids must be carried out. Both “folk remedies” and chemical industry products will help here.

Aktara

With the help of this chemical, it is possible to create reliable protection on the site from pests such as aphids, scale insects, whiteflies and false scale insects. 30 minutes after spraying, the aphids already lose interest in food and simply die. The drug should be used 2 times.

Aktara

The interval between treatments will be 7 days. Aktara is a chemical of the third hazard class and is highly toxic to bees. But for the inhabitants of the reservoir, earthworms, the drug is slightly toxic. By clicking on the link you can learn more about Aktara liquid against the Colorado potato beetle.

Traditional methods of fighting aphids

“Folk remedies” for aphids can serve as both preventive measures and the main method of control. The disadvantage of this method is the speed of action. Here he loses to chemicals. But there is a certain advantage - this method is absolutely safe for both plants and humans.

If you were wondering how to get rid of aphids using traditional methods, then here are the top methods that will come to your aid:

  1. Water: The easiest way, although not very effective, is to water the plants with a strong stream of water (this will cause the aphids to “fall off”).
  2. Soap: treat the plants with a soap solution (the proportion of water and laundry soap is 10 liters per 50-100 ml, respectively).
  3. Green Soap: This garden soap is a biological product (made only from natural products) that can be used alone or as a solution.
  4. Soda ash: a solution is prepared from soda (100-150 g), water (10 l) and soap (50-100 ml). The disadvantage of this method is repeated processing (every week).
  5. Tobacco: The sharp smell repels aphids. You can sprinkle it on the plant or make a solution. The composition is as follows: water (10 l) and tobacco (200-300 ml). Before use you need to insist. The disadvantage of this method is that the smell disappears quickly.
  6. Wood ash: the working solution is prepared from ash (2-3 kg), water (10 l) and soap (100 ml). Infuse for about 2 days, after which it is filtered.
  7. Vinegar: with water (1 l), you can use apple cider vinegar (1-2 tbsp) and table vinegar (1 tsp), as well as vinegar essence. You cannot use pure vinegar, as this will cause burns on the plant.
  8. Mustard: both dry and its infusion are suitable: water (5 l), mustard powder (100 g) and soap (100 ml).
  9. Cola: Undiluted Coca-Cola is poisonous to aphids. To obtain a working solution, you only need to add soap. The method has two disadvantages: short duration and repeated processing.
  10. Essential Oil: Mix 5 each of strong-smelling essential oils (e.g., eucalyptus, orange, peppermint, clove, rosemary). The disadvantage of this method is that the plant needs to be treated every day for a week.

All of these remedies for aphids can be made at home, since almost every housewife has the ingredients.

IMPORTANT! All these methods require multiple repetitions due to low efficiency. “Folk remedies” are suitable only for personal use (it is not advisable to use them in agriculture).

Trichopolum

Trichopolum for aphids is a tablet used in medical practice to treat various diseases caused by protozoan bacteria. Also, if the correct proportion is observed, it can protect cucumbers and tomatoes from aphids.

  • What is it produced in? Produced in tablet form. One cardboard box contains 2 blisters, each of which contains 10 Trichopolum tablets.
  • Chemical composition . 1 tablet contains 250 g of metronidazole. Additional components include starch syrup, potato starch, gelatin, magnesium stearate.
  • Mode of action of the drug . It has a detrimental effect on the body of aphids, causing paralysis and problems with the cardiovascular system.
  • Duration of action . The action ends before the first rain. After the rain stops, the spraying procedure can be repeated.
  • Compatibility . Can be combined with any drugs that, after mixing with Trichopolum, will not precipitate.
  • When to use? Apply at the first sign of aphids on vegetables. You can repeat the procedure at least every day (if after the first spraying it started to rain and the drug did not have time to act).
  • How to prepare the solution? 20 tablets of this medicine are completely dissolved in 10 liters of water and sprayed on plants. It is not prohibited to carry out treatment during flowering, because the drug does not pose any harm to bees and fish.
  • Mode of application . The seedlings are thoroughly treated with the prepared solution. At the same time, the work can be done without special protective equipment, because it does not cause harm to the body.
  • Toxicity . The drug is absolutely harmless to humans because it is used in medical practice to treat various diseases.

Chemicals

Although insecticides are an effective remedy for aphids, they cause damage not only to plants, but also to animals. That is why they try to use them as little as possible. This usually occurs in early spring (before flowering) and late autumn (after harvest). Another disadvantage of this product is the death of not only aphids, but also other insects, including beneficial ones. For safe and most effective use, you must strictly follow the instructions for use. Among the most popular insecticides are:

  1. Fitoverm: contains the natural neurotoxin aversectin-C. The dosage of insecticide and water is 8 ml per 1 liter, respectively. Plants are treated with it 2 or 3 times. Its big advantage is that the substance does not accumulate in the fruits after processing.
  2. Fufanon: used in private household plots and agriculture. Contains malathion. The dosage of insecticide and water is 10-14 ml per 10 l, respectively. The drug is characterized by resistance, so it is used once.
  3. Biotlin: the active ingredient of the drug is imidacloprid. Plus - it does not accumulate in fruits. The dosage of insecticide and water is 5 ml per 10 l, respectively. Plants are treated with it once (at any time except the flowering period). An analogue of the drug is Tanrek.
  4. Spark: this is a whole series of drugs with different formulations: EC, sticks, powder, tablets. For example, Iskra sticks are an excellent remedy for indoor aphids.
  5. Aktara is a universal remedy for combating various plant pests. The active ingredient of the drug is thiamethoxam. The dosage of insecticide and water is 1 ml per 5 liters, respectively. Treatment is carried out in two stages (the second is preventive).

Important! Before using chemicals, carefully read the instructions.
