  2. Pest control

  4. How to get rid of flies in your house and apartment quickly and easily

The appearance of harmful flying insects indoors usually coincides with the onset of warm spring and summer days and lasts about six months. And during this period of time, the annoying “guests” manage not only to tire their people out considerably with their presence, but also to cause serious damage to the sanitary and epidemiological situation in residential premises.

How to get rid of flies - the eternal companions of the hot summer, tormenting children and adults with their annoying buzzing? This question worries thousands of people year after year, waging a senseless and merciless fight against a pest that carries pathogens of dangerous diseases, infections and pathogenic bacteria on its limbs and abdomen. But it is pointless to fight only adult individuals, which are the source of inconvenience, unless efforts are made to prevent the appearance of new insects. It is necessary to fight on all fronts, destroying eggs, larvae and pupae of flies no less ruthlessly than adult flies.

Flies: what do we know about them?

Before you begin exterminating flies in your house, you should study their habits and lifestyle features in detail, otherwise it will be almost impossible to ensure their effective extermination. And the first thing worth remembering is that the main reason for their appearance is the creation of a favorable environment for the proliferation of a harmful parasite. What can contribute to their active reproduction? The most common factors include:

  • poor cleaning;
  • low level of hygienic cleanliness;
  • non-compliance with the household waste disposal regime;
  • lack of proper personal hygiene;
  • availability of free access to food.

And this is not a complete list of reasons why dangerous pests can appear in a house or apartment. After all, a source of sanitary hazard can be the neighbors’ home or garbage containers located under the window. It is even more difficult to maintain the required level of hygienic cleanliness where the garbage disposal is led directly into the kitchen or there is not a bathroom connected to the main sewer, but a cesspool.

The main danger posed by the active reproduction of flies is the spread of dangerous infectious diseases. Cholera and typhoid fever, dysentery and other types of intestinal infections - all of them can lead to serious consequences and even death. But the list of diseases in which winged parasites are involved in the spread also includes viral forms of infections - hepatitis, polio, conjunctivitis. Treatment in this case can be lengthy and very painful.

Where do flies come from?

The main reason lies in the creation of ideal conditions for life and reproduction. Why is human habitation such an attractive place for dipterans?

  • in the kitchen there is always a garbage can with an accumulation of food waste, the smell of which attracts insects;
  • optimal temperature conditions in which they can live and actively reproduce;
  • suitable humidity level.

Why do flies start flying around the house? There are two ways to get into the rooms. The first is windows and doors that are not fully or not tightly closed, ventilation holes, and all sorts of cracks. The second is store-bought fruit and vegetable products on which insect eggs were laid. In a room environment, they ripen in a matter of hours, and young and healthy offspring are born from them, which annoy humans.

Important! Gray, green and black flies are attracted by waste that begins to rot, dirty plates in the sink or on the table, uncleaned bread crumbs or sugar grains, dirty footprints and stains, and areas with high humidity.

What to do if flies appear in the apartment? All methods to combat them can be conditionally divided into three groups: folk, modern and chemical. Below are more details about each of them.

The enemy is attacking: how to secure your home?

How to get rid of flying insects in an apartment if the invasion has already begun? In fact, even if you did not have time to take care of preventive measures, you can stop the expansion at any stage. It is enough to act systematically, paying special attention to increasing the level of sanitation and hygiene in residential premises and latrines. And in order for harmful insects to be defeated as quickly as possible, you can resort to the following measures to ensure home safety:

  1. Prevention measures . Screens on windows and doors, regular sanitation, timely disposal of waste.
  2. Folk remedies . All kinds of traps, sticky tapes and products with a strong smell to scare away.
  3. Chemicals . Sprays, tablets and liquids to repel insects, chemical traps and biological control agents.
  4. Calling specialists . Professional insecticidal treatment allows not only to find and neutralize the places of egg laying, pupation and nesting of flies, but also to ensure the total destruction of adult individuals. Such measures are especially relevant if cleaning is carried out in a home that has a pronounced unfavorable sanitary and epidemiological background. You cannot do without the help of specialists even when processing is carried out in production, industrial, or commercial premises. Household chemicals are most often useless here.

Experts with significant experience in combating various types of insects warn:

When planning the fight against flies in residential areas, it is important to understand that most non-professional products, although classified as insecticides, have only a “cosmetic” effect. That is, it has a local effect without destroying the source of the problems that have arisen - the nests where insect larvae develop and eggs are laid. It is important to take into account that drugs that effectively destroy adult individuals have practically no effect on embryos. In this case, the approach to treatment should be comprehensive, taking into account all the characteristics of the life activity of pests and the level of their resistance to the effects of insecticidal treatment.

How to get rid of flies in an apartment

Fortunately, today there are many ways to say goodbye to the pest forever. Among them there are both professional and popular, both expensive and almost free.

Chemicals

Chemicals on the market are represented by the following main groups:

  • sticky tapes. One of the most popular, simple and effective methods. Its main disadvantage is the deterioration of the aesthetics of housing. Velcro is a strip lubricated with a sticky substance with a sweet smell. The principle of operation is simple - the fly, attracted by the aroma, sits on the tape and sticks. After this, he dies from lack of food (and sometimes due to sealing of the respiratory organs),

  • fumigator. The operating principle of this device is to evaporate a toxic (only for flies, of course) composition of a tablet introduced into the body. Connects to the mains. The main disadvantage of the device is that it is not suitable for large rooms. It is best to use it in rooms up to 12 m2,

  • aerosol. Sprays and aerosols are more suitable for protecting the area from parasite invasion. However, they are also suitable for preventing the appearance of flies and exterminating insects that have already appeared in the apartment. It is necessary to spray the spray over the area of the room. Flies cannot tolerate the active ingredients and suffocate or fly away. Nothing bad will happen to a person from the aerosol, however, such drugs should be used with caution for those suffering from asthma or allergic reactions,

  • gel with poison. Gels with poison for flies are applied either to a special substrate, which is sold along with the product, or to the surfaces themselves with which flies most often come into contact. Insects are attracted by the aroma of the gel, but upon contact with it they receive a lethal dose of poison and die. As with previous drugs, this poison is absolutely safe for humans, but it is better to hide the gel pads from children.

A cool period has come and the flies have become uncomfortable living outside. You open the door a little and migrants instantly take over the house. If in the summer it was somehow tolerable, then by autumn it became unbearable. In practice, we still use adhesive tapes, but, you must admit, this is not a very effective method, and such a device does not look aesthetically pleasing in the middle of the hall on a chandelier, and every now and then someone sticks to it. Fumigators that plug into an outlet scare me, especially with a small child. And aerosols are not a solution at all. At that moment, when the flies had already completely overcome, we decided to look for a remedy that would suit us all, but really did not suit these insects. And you know, we found it. The gel [Mukhoyar Fly Gel] is applied to a substrate (we press it onto jar lids) and hidden, for example, behind a vase on a cabinet, on a window sill behind a flower pot, on a kitchen unit. So they don't spoil the view. And the child will not get into the product. Moreover, flies do not stick to the gel. The gel has no odor. It does not release hazardous substances into the air, so it is absolutely safe to use it even in the presence of children. But, of course, you shouldn’t touch it with your hands.

[Bait for killing flies Agita] When you live in a city, flies (and other flying nits) don’t cause too many problems. At least in the city, it is quite enough to hang up a mosquito net and destroy the insects that have already flown into the apartment. But when you live in a village/stanitsa, the problem of flying insects becomes especially acute. I have already found out that fighting insects with an electric fly swatter is pointless. Today, on the advice of my grandfather, I went to the veterinary pharmacy, where I purchased a drop-dead product called Agita 10 WG. At first, the flies even liked the product, but I thought it was a waste of time to pour water on my eye and didn’t follow the proportions, since the white liquid doesn’t work. However, 5 minutes passed after I ran around the house with a spray bottle (I used a regular bottle of glass cleaning liquid, very convenient), and the flies had already flown off to their forefathers. Well, or to a neighbor. I don't really care. The main thing is that the Agita 10WG fly repellent really works. Moreover, the effect is long-term. Some people talk about weeks of life without flies after treating the area, but I don’t believe in such a period. My grandfather already used this poison at home (and there are tons of mosquitoes there, since the Kuban River is nearby) and noted a three-day effect.

Fly traps

A fly trap is an effective and visual tool. You can make such a mechanism yourself, but stores also offer a wide range of parasite traps. The simplest homemade trap is made from a plastic bottle:

  1. Rinse the empty, unwanted plastic bottle with water and dry.

  2. Cut off the top of the bottle using scissors. Try to cut as evenly as possible - this affects the quality of the trap.

  3. Turn the cut top over and insert it into the bottle.

  4. Secure the result. Connect the two parts with tape or a stapler.

  5. Prepare the syrup. To do this, boil one glass of water in a saucepan and add half a glass of sugar. When the sugar dissolves, cool the resulting syrup.

  6. Carefully pour the syrup into the bottle. Additionally, lubricate the edges of the trap with it. You can also add other baits to the syrup: small pieces of fruit, such as apples. Meat that has begun to rot is also perfect. Fill the trap so that there is a little less than a centimeter left to the neck of the bottle.

  7. Place the trap in a warm and open place. A well-heated window sill is best.

Purchased traps come in a variety of shapes and prices. The cheapest ones cost about 300 rubles, while prices for the most expensive ones can be above 8,000 rubles.

Airhot IK-40W - a trap that attracts insects with light and kills them with electricity

The Aeroxon trap is a variation on adhesive tape, but offers a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Mechanical methods

Mechanical methods are simply killing flies with a fly swatter, newspaper, slipper or anything else that comes to hand. This method can only be effective if two or three parasites appear that have flown to you completely by accident. If there are about a dozen flies and they keep multiplying, then a fly swatter is not enough.

Professional pest control

If there are too many flies, you should consider the services of professionals. Fortunately, pest control has now become quite accessible. For an average of 1,500 rubles, professional services will rid your apartment of flies. As a rule, cold and hot fog generators are used for this, which destroys all parasites in the apartment. After this, the services can additionally treat the house to prevent the subsequent penetration of insects into your home.

When choosing a pest control service, rely on independent reviews. If possible, ask your neighbors and friends.

Folk remedies

There are quite a lot of folk remedies that expel or destroy flies in an apartment. Choose the one you like best:

  • flies cannot stand the smell of vodka or vinegar, so they can be sprayed in the room where insects appear most often. Table vinegar 9% must be diluted with water in a 1:1 ratio before use.
  • You can soak paper ribbons in a mixture of ground black pepper and milk. Add a tablespoon of pepper to half a glass of milk and stir. Dip paper strips into the mixture. Hang them throughout the apartment,
  • Flies also do not like the smell of kerosene. Dissolve a quarter cup of kerosene in a bucket for washing floors and carry out wet cleaning,
  • Potted plants can not only serve as food for flies, but also repel them. Flies cannot tolerate the smell of the following plants: mint, wormwood, lavender, tansy, cloves, geranium, fern, basil, elderberry. You can plant these plants on your windowsill or use dried bouquets to repel flies. Just don't use herbs that you are allergic to.

When should preventive measures be used?

So that you don’t have to quickly look for a recipe on how to escape flies, you should take care in advance of preventive measures that can minimize the risk of these pests appearing indoors. And first of all, as a safety measure, polymer mesh with small cells is used, installed on window and door openings, ventilation holes and vents. Such a mechanical barrier, if not scare away, will at least keep flies from visiting your home en masse.

Replacing ordinary buckets and waste containers with sealed modules made of polymer materials will also be a good preventative measure. Timely cleaning of latrines and regular addition of bleach to open latrines, presented in the form of cesspools, will also help avoid the invasion of potential carriers of dangerous infections. You can also stock up in advance on fumigation preparations, insecticidal lamps and other traps that use modern insect control technologies in their work.

Mechanical means

You can quickly and safely get rid of any type of flying midge using simple techniques.

Adhesive tape is one of the ways to kill midges on the windowsill

  • In places where midges accumulate, low containers are placed into which a special solution of water with a small amount of vinegar (wine) is poured, and liquid soap is added. Due to the soapy structure, midges that fall into the liquid cannot take off and die.
  • Adhesive tapes are hung over the windowsill.
  • During daily cleaning, flying insects are caught with a vacuum cleaner.
  • You can place an aromatic lamp on the windowsill, adding a few drops of clove or eucalyptus oil to it, which repel midges.

It is not difficult to make a trap in which midges will be collected. To do this, take a plastic glass with a lid. A little compote or apple cider vinegar is poured inside, you can put banana slices. Small holes are made in the lid according to the size of the midges.

DIY midge trap

As the trap fills with midges, it is thrown away, placed in a bag, and a new cup is placed in its place. You can make a similar trap from any small container, covering it with cellophane, sealed tightly with tape, cord or rubber band. Holes are made in the cellophane, and the device for catching midges is placed in the right place.

If all places where midges breed are eliminated, such traps effectively cope with the problem of their destruction. After carrying out measures to get rid of midges, a general cleaning will be required, during which kitchen cabinets and all hard-to-reach places behind furniture and under pipes are washed with a soda solution.

Home control methods

Use natural weapons to fight flies. Among the most popular “folk” methods:

  1. Geraniums in pots and ornamental tomatoes can become a natural barrier to insects. By releasing aromatic substances that are unpleasant to pests, they are an excellent natural replacement for fumigators.
  2. Saccharin, unlike sugar, is a deadly poison for flying parasites. It is enough to prepare a syrup from a mixture of water, honey and saccharin and pour it into containers. Uninvited guests, attracted by the sweet aroma, will taste the poison and die.
  3. Essential oils are not among insects' favorite foods. Try offering flies a cocktail of eucalyptus, lemon, lavender, geranium oils - they can be placed in an aroma lamp or used in the form of sticks for smoking incense.
  4. Sticky tapes based on castor oil and rosin, flavored with honey, help fight harmful parasites quite effectively. However, their production requires time and consumables.
  5. You can also use regular sugar as a sweet death trap for flies - just flavor it with a fair amount of black pepper or chlorophos.

However, you don’t have to stop at the proposed methods of struggle, because the list of folk remedies is truly inexhaustible.

Common methods of fighting

If a lot of small midges appeared on the glass outside and began to settle on the windowsill and inside the apartment, penetrating the window, then we are talking about thaumatomy - a type of midges that are harmless to humans. A large number of them usually irritates, so there should be mosquito nets on the windows.

Mosquito net will protect against insects

Experts say that this is the most effective method, since treatment by any means allows you to get rid of this midge only for a short period of time, because the place of dead individuals is taken by newly arrived ones.

It is not always possible to determine from which specific lawn insects are flying into the house, although treating them with a specialized service can be effective. The fate of the residents is made easier by the fact that thaumatomas disappear without a trace with the onset of cold weather, and may not appear the next year.

To get rid of sciarid larvae, you can carry out a whole range of measures:

Place ginger on the windowsill to repel midges

  1. spill the soil in the pots with a low concentration solution of potassium permanganate;
  2. sprinkle a layer of ash or tobacco on the surface of the soil;
  3. spread ginger, basil or cloves away from midges;
  4. purchase specialized drugs - Muhoed, Aktara, Pochin and others, which should be used in accordance with the instructions;
  5. grind Mashenka chalk and mix it with the top layer of soil;
  6. If the larvae are very widespread, it is advisable to replant the plant and throw away the infected soil mixture.

Garlic infusion can help against midges, for which grated garlic (one head) is infused in 600 ml of hot water for about four hours. The entire above-ground part of the plant should be sprayed with the strained liquid, and the remaining sediment should be buried in the soil.

Midges do not like the smell of tomato tops, so you can grow special varieties of indoor tomatoes next to the flowers.

Having noticed flying fruit flies, it is necessary to immediately inspect all fruit and vegetable stocks and remove rotten specimens. If it is not possible to put them in the refrigerator, each healthy fruit should be wiped dry.

Put food in the refrigerator - this will help you avoid midges.

These midges can appear from the kitchen sink drain, indicating the need to urgently clear the blockage in the siphon.

Insecticidal treatment: choosing products

In order to effectively fight insects at home, it is worth paying attention to ready-made products produced by the chemical industry. True, it is worth remembering that most adult individuals are immune to such popular agents as dichlorvos and its derivatives. But more modern sprays are quite capable of providing an effective effect on insects upon contact with them. But such drugs have a high level of toxicity and can be dangerous for children, animals and people prone to allergic reactions to the components of the product.

Are you looking for how to get rid of flies without harming the health of others? Use more gentle methods. For example, you can use a variety of industrially produced traps. They influence insects using ultrasound or other methods and ensure the rapid death of pests without disturbing the peace of people and pets.

Industrially produced adhesive tape is inexpensive, but is effective only in places where there are large concentrations of buzzing individuals. They can be used in addition to chemical reagents in toilets, kitchen areas or hung near the trash can.

Fumigation compounds against flies have good performance indicators, but rather act as a repellent. The validity period of a tablet or evaporating liquid will not be enough to kill insects.

Studying the “enemy”

A fly is an arthropod insect belonging to the order Diptera. The world population numbers about 3,650 species. The apartments of Russian residents are most often inhabited by house flies, which cannot live far from humans.

Danger

Why do people try to get rid of flies? Because of the annoying buzzing, because of the unpleasant sensations from the movement of flies over the face and body. But insects are also dangerous. They carry diseases on their paws, including:

  • typhoid fever;
  • typhus;
  • cholera;
  • salmonellosis;
  • tuberculosis;
  • dysentery;
  • diarrhea;
  • conjunctivitis;
  • parasitic worms.

Flies lay eggs in food, most often they leave the body in their original form, but in large quantities they can cause intestinal disorders and intoxication.

Houseflies don't bite. But burner flies leave bites. They are distinguished from “apartment” insects by the special structure of their proboscis, which allows them to feed on the blood of animals and only occasionally humans. Mostly such insects live on livestock farms.

Morphological features

The body of an arthropod is divided into three zones: head, chest and abdomen. The size of the dipteran living in the apartment is up to 50 mm. The specific structure of flies determines factors that complicate the fight against them. Let us highlight four features that determine the survivability of insects.

  1. High speed. The wings allow the insect to move very quickly: the fly can reach speeds of up to 20 km/h.
  2. Sensitive sense of smell. On the insect's head there is a pair of antennae, consisting of four segments, which allow the arthropod to smell food at a great distance.
  3. Developed vision. The eyes of the dipteran, consisting of 4 thousand lenses, provide all-round vision. Also on the “top of the head” there are three more eyes looking up - they are only visible under a microscope. The insect reacts very quickly to approaching objects, which is why it is so difficult to catch it. However, the fly cannot distinguish a transparent barrier, so you can often see it unsuccessfully hitting the glass.
  4. Tenacity. The fly has six legs, “equipped” with claws and thin hairs that allow the insect to cling to the surface, as well as special glands that secrete a sticky substance. That is why a fly can move equally well on horizontal and vertical surfaces, and even upside down on the ceiling.

Why does a fly rub its legs? The sticky secretion secreted by the glands of the paws collects particles of dirt and dust, which significantly reduces the ability to “attach” to surfaces. Therefore, the insect has to periodically clean the pads of its feet by rubbing them against each other.

Life cycle

Flies do not live long - 1.5-2 months. However, during this time the female can lay from 500 to 2000 eggs. The life cycle of an arthropod can be divided into four stages.

  1. Egg. Typically the insect lays 1.2mm white eggs in humid conditions. As a rule, this is garbage, compost pits, for some varieties - meat, fish, food products.
  2. Larva. The worm-like larva emerges from the egg after about 8-24 hours. Its development lasts 5-14 days
  3. Doll. The larva crawls to a dry place and turns into a pupa. Pupation lasts five to six days.
  4. Adult. An adult insect emerges from the pupa, which after ten days acquires the ability to mate. Flies reproduce at an astonishing rate, laying up to 150 eggs per day.

With the onset of cold weather, adult females and pupae hibernate. They often spend the winter in secluded corners of heated apartments.

Living conditions and nutritional habits

The most favorable temperature for insects is 23-25°C and air humidity 80%. When the temperature drops, the dipterans become lethargic and gradually hibernate. Therefore, in winter the question of how to get flies out of an apartment usually does not arise.

Flies living in an apartment feed on any food of organic origin. They give particular preference to sweets (jam, honey, juices, fruits) and rotting foods. Insects do not have teeth and suck up food with their proboscis, so in order to soften hard food, they pre-treat it with their own saliva.

How they appear

Where do flies come from in the house? Most often, insects fly into an apartment through open windows and doors, and ventilation holes. Fly eggs can be brought into the apartment along with vegetables and fruits and even a bouquet of wild flowers. Most often this happens in summer and autumn - during the period of insect activity, however, even in winter, a sleeping fly or larva can get into the house.

But why don’t insects stay in some apartments, while in others they feel great? The answer is simple: the uncleanliness of the owners is an invitation card for winged “invaders.” A dirty kitchen is the most attractive for insects; there is always something to profit from:

  • overflowing trash can;
  • food remains on the table and other surfaces;
  • piles of dirty dishes;
  • pet bowl.

Most often, residents of the first floors suffer from an “invasion” of flies: the proximity of barrels of garbage and a damp basement create a favorable environment for insects.

About other varieties

Sometimes, in addition to indoor flies, other types of flies can settle in an apartment. The table below will introduce you to the characteristics of insects.

Table - Types of flies that can live in an apartment

VarietyAppearanceFeatures of existence
Drosophila (fruit or fruit midge)- Red eyes; - body yellow-brown; – size – about 2.5 mm — Feeds on rotting vegetables and fruits, flower nectar, sour plant juice; — the journey from egg to adult takes 10 days; - after emerging from the pupa, the insect can produce offspring for 2 knocks; - flies poorly
Onion fly— The body is ashy-yellow with a greenish tint; - slightly smaller than room size — Lays eggs next to onion plantings or in onion peels; - appears in the apartment along with the onion
Meat green fly— Body green with a metallic sheen; – size – up to 5-10 mm — Mainly lives in the southern regions; - adult individuals live only 5-7 days after emerging from the pupa; - lays eggs on food, most often in fish or meat

Despite some differences, the fight against all types of flies is the same. But due to the small size of fruit flies and their poor ability to fly, mechanical methods and the use of sticky tapes are ineffective for eliminating these insects.

Will professionals help?

If it is not possible to deal with insects on your own, you should think about the possibility of exterminating them with the help of professionals. It is the exterminator specialists who will be able to identify all places of potential danger, identify breeding areas of flies and destroy both adult flies and larvae, which can reduce the effectiveness of treatment to zero if they are not treated in time with special compounds.

If you are looking for an effective way to combat harmful flying parasites, experts will help you find the best way out of the situation using the most modern, effective and environmentally friendly drugs. To order treatment or learn more about possible options for carrying out disinfestation measures, just contact the company’s managers by phone.

A professional approach to disinfestation is the key to hygienic cleanliness and sanitary and epidemiological safety in a house or apartment. That is why, if pest control does not bring the desired results, you should not wait until the size of the colony of flies living in the premises of the home reaches its maximum values. Just call us, and any insoluble problem will find its effective solution, and you can breathe freely, leaving the tedious time of fighting for an insect-free territory in the past.

The cracks are an ambush

Nets on the windows, tulle with weights along the edges on all doors - a common sight in a village or country house. But the flies still sneak in!? These beasts use any crack to get into your home. Therefore, if the house is old, you need to seal all the holes - cover the building with protective material (wood, siding), check the floor, baseboards, door and window jambs. Flies even climb through pipes - ventilation, chimney: there is a reason to cover the holes with a special mesh.

Universal aerosol of the KRA brand, known since Soviet times.

It has been noted that in August-September, before “settled” in cracks and shelters, “clattering bugs” land on the southern and western walls of the house. At this time, it is advisable to spray them to reduce the number of those who sneak into the building for the winter. For these purposes, it is better to use universal aerosols, for example, “KRA - deo super”, “KRA - deo super - Dichlorvos”, “Mukhoyar - fly spray”

. At the same time, if you use them in the house, they will destroy mosquitoes, mosquitoes and moths.

Ready trap - add jam and wait...

The easiest way to reduce the number of uninvited flying “guests” in your apartment is to make traps for flies, wasps and hornets

. This option is convenient for those who are hypersensitive to household chemicals. For a plastic bottle, you need to cut off a part of the neck measuring 10 cm, turn it over and insert it inside the second part of the bottle, and secure the edges with a stapler. Pour beer, kvass, jam or pieces of fruit into the trap bottle. These baits will work like a magnet. Such traps can be bought ready-made and placed in rooms or in the garden. One of them, under the brand name “Mukhoyar”, will catch wasps, hornets, flies and some pests of fruit crops.

Moistened cloth

To drive flies away from an area, you can force them to stick, then leave them to die a slow death. The trap, consisting of one dampened rag, includes the following composition:

  • rosin;
  • honey;
  • castor oil;
  • a couple of lines of fabric.

To create bait against flies you need:
  1. Mix the presented ingredients in equal proportions.
  2. Apply the resulting mixture onto a cloth.
  3. Place a rag on a window frame or other object where flies accumulate.

Preventive actions

Knowing the reasons that contribute to the appearance of midges in apartments will allow you to follow several simple preventive rules.

Washing dishes will reduce the chance of midges appearing in your home.

  • The soil mixture for indoor crops must be pre-heated or frozen to get rid of any eggs or larvae present in it.
  • There is no need to allow waterlogging when watering plants.
  • It is necessary to periodically carry out preventive treatment against midges.

Particular attention is paid to food storage. It is advisable to keep all bulk varieties in closed containers. Vegetables, herbs, berries, fruits should be in the refrigerator.

Maintaining good hygiene helps to avoid the appearance of midges. Do not leave dirty dishes for a long time. All bowls used for pets are promptly cleared of food residues and washed.

At the slightest sign of a blockage, measures are taken to eliminate it. The trash can is washed daily with a low concentration vinegar solution, and the inside of the cabinet where the bin is located is also treated.

Diluting vinegar with water to clean trash cans

Considering that the best conditions for midge breeding are warm and damp, you need to eliminate all places where there may be leakage from pipes.
