Insecticide Prestige: instructions for use, composition and reviews

Description and composition of the drug Prestige

The Prestige disinfectant contains two main active ingredients - imidacloprid and pencycuron. This is a unique combination of two substances. They are both poisonous. However, their decomposition ends after 40 days. They are gradually removed from the fruit. After 50 days, we can safely say that there is not a single mg of Prestige insecticide left in the crop.

Thanks to its unique composition, the Prestige working solution freezes over the crops after treatment, forming a very thin film. During the specified time of action, the drug works, destroying both larvae and adults. The chemical does not need to be washed off with water.

Treatment of seed tubers before planting

Dilute Prestige disinfectant according to the instructions in a plastic bottle of suitable capacity.
Mark the finished solution into levels according to the number of batches of tubers being processed along the outer surface of the bottle with a marker or pieces of adhesive tape, colored tape, or tape. It is better to divide seed potatoes for processing with Prestige into batches of 2 buckets. This will make it easier for one person to mix the treated tubers, and there will be less chance of the film breaking.

To prepare a working solution for 72 kg of seeds (9 buckets), I use 1 bottle with 60 ml of concentrate. I mark the solution in the bottle into four and a half levels: four whole levels for a batch of tubers, two buckets each, and half for one bucket.

Before processing, a batch of seed potatoes should be placed on a sheet of plastic film of sufficient size and strength so that you can grab it by the edges and mix the tubers sprayed with the solution to more evenly distribute the dressing over the surface of the seeds.

You can spray the Prestige disinfectant from the bottle in which it is diluted, using a spray nozzle, or by pouring it in levels into a small garden sprayer.

As a last resort, in the absence of plastic film, you can take a polypropylene bag and process the seed potatoes in it, only when mixing you can get more dirty than when using film.

Purpose of the drug

Prestige is used when crops are damaged by the Colorado potato beetle and other insect pests; it also works against larvae, eliminates fungus and related diseases. After treatment, the plants are protected throughout the growing season.

The insecticide has shown effectiveness not only against the Colorado potato beetle, but also against other harmful insects.

The list continues with the following insect pests:

  • aphids (protection from 35 to 40 days);
  • midges;
  • wireworm (the protective effect extends throughout the entire period);
  • thrips;
  • sawfly;
  • mole.

In the photo there is a sawfly

Prestige is effective against plant diseases such as rhizoctonia and scab. The protection takes effect immediately. For example, when processing potatoes, the tubers end up in the planting hole. Basic substances form a protective environment around young plants.

Attention!

The poisons included in the Prestige insecticide do not accumulate in potato tubers. Treatment, on the contrary, has a positive effect on young crops, increases resistance, immunity, stimulates the formation, growth and development of plants. As a result, it becomes easier to care for the crop, and less effort and time is spent on pest control.

Foreign and domestic analogues

The product from Bayer CropScience is not suitable for all gardeners. However, among a large number of products, you can choose analogues of the drug prestige for processing potatoes.

Here are a few disinfectants that will protect your garden or garden from pests:

  • Mospilan is a systemic insecticide from the Japanese company Nippon Soda Co. Effective against Colorado potato beetle, aphids, greenhouse whitefly, western flower tris and other insects. Available in the form of a soluble powder. Cost – 6300 rubles per kilogram;
  • Tanrek is a Russian disinfectant. Destroys pests on potatoes, flower crops, cucumbers, tomatoes and other fruit plants. Valid for 3 weeks after use. Subject to storage conditions, it can be used for 3 years. Cost – 70 rubles per 10 ml.
  • Actellik is a drug from Syngenta (Switzerland). It is sold as an emulsion concentrate and is sold in 5 liter canisters. It is a broad-spectrum insecticide that kills all types of insects. It does not harm plants, which makes it stand out compared to similar drugs. Valid for up to 3 weeks. Cost - from 18 thousand rubles per 5 liter canister (4 thousand rubles per 1 liter).

Choose an analogue based on your goals.

Classification

Types of synthetic drugs against striped pests

Chemical compositions for the destruction of Colorado potato beetles are divided into:

  1. Insecticides.
  2. Biological products.
  3. Folk remedies.

To effectively use chemicals, you must be able to correctly correlate the choice of drug with the conditions of your summer cottage. The leading positions in the ranking of pest control products are occupied by powerful synthetic compounds with a high speed of impact: “Prestige”, “Aktara”, “Tanrek”, “Koragen”, “Respect”, “Bark beetle”.

Some farmers combine natural remedies with systemic microbiological preparations (Fitosporin, etc.), insecticide-acaricidal agents (Rateid, Tsifoks based on cypermethrin). In order not to harm the plantings, farmers follow the dosages of drugs recommended in the instructions.

When using insecticides and pesticides together, you need to know the degree of compatibility of the drugs.

Methods of influence

According to methods of use, synthetic drugs are conventionally divided into:

  • mordants (they are used to treat tubers before planting);
  • spraying agents.

Chemical compounds have different effects on beetles. Some instantly kill harmful insects, others scare off minke whales with a pungent odor, paralyze, or disrupt the functioning of the parasites’ digestive system.

NameWhat harm does it cause to parasites?
ContactInsects come into contact with treated plant parts and die. The method is not used during rain, before watering.
IntestinalThe poison penetrates the pests during feeding.
SystemChemicals fill the plants. Crops become inedible for pests.
SprayingThe working solution of the drug is sprayed onto plants, beetles, larvae, and eggs. The composition poisons pests without harming crops.
Regulation of growth and developmentDrugs that fall on parasites during pollination interfere with the growth of the protective shell of the larvae. This leads to underdevelopment of pests and their death. Toxic compounds that enter the body of female parasites along with green matter cause disturbances in the life cycles of the offspring of minke whales.

Among insecticidal agents with a reputation for being effective, farmers often choose: Actellik, Punisher, Confidor, Agita, 30 Plus. The contact-intestinal remedy for Colorado beetles “Gunner Duo” also has a high rating. This insecticide destroys all harmful insects and protects the garden for a month.

Many farmers who want to get rid of the Colorado potato beetle choose the Stop Beetle insecticide. This contact-intestinal drug has a class IV hazard class for humans. Despite its toxicity, STOP Beetle is actively used by gardeners; the chemical quickly rids plants of pests without disturbing the life cycles of crops.

By composition

Colorado beetles quickly adapt to synthetic compounds. Experienced gardeners advise alternating preparations with different active substances.

NamePeculiarities
AvermectinsThey are produced by streptomycete fungi or obtained by chemical synthesis. Preparations based on avermectins are not too dangerous for humans, but have a negative effect on beneficial insects. Such products cannot be used near apiaries.
PyrethrinsThey cause paralysis of the nervous system in Colorado beetles and the death of insects. The activity of the agents decreases with increasing ambient temperature.
Phosphorus compoundsThey have class III hazard to humans. If phosphorus compounds are used against beetles for a long period, the pests become immune to the compounds.
NeonicotinoidsUsed for the synthesis of active drugs with systemic action against striped pests.

Pyrethroid insecticides are less toxic than chemicals from other groups. After treating potatoes with the following preparations: “Kinmiks”, “Marshal”, “Klotiamet”, “Typhoon”, “Hurricane”, “Senpai”, you cannot dig up the tubers for at least 30 days. This protects against the effects of harmful substances that get inside the plants.

Advantages of Prestige insecticide

Gardeners have long used a variety of insecticides. Prestige is an innovative drug in this category.

It has a lot of undeniable advantages:

  1. low level of toxicity;
  2. no need to do frequent processing;
  3. the duration of action of the drug Prestige is 40 days - enough to properly eliminate pests, protect plants, strengthen and promote normal development;
  4. does not accumulate in fruits;
  5. high efficiency of Prestige against the Colorado potato beetle, wireworm, fungi and other pathogenic microorganisms;
  6. stimulates photosynthesis;
  7. rapid penetration into plant tissue, which leads to the death of insects, while maintaining safety for humans and the environment.

The disadvantages include the high cost of the drug Prestige, but the costs are fully recouped by the 100% result.

Testing the effectiveness of the drug "Prestige" against the Colorado potato beetle

Mechanism of action and scope of application

The drug from Bayer CropScience is a disinfectant that has two effects at once: fungicidal and insecticidal.

As a fungicide, the product acts as follows:

  • affects fungal microorganisms, disrupting the ability to divide, which is why fungi cannot live and reproduce;
  • stimulates the production of substances that protect the plant from pathogens. These microelements are not dangerous for fruit crops, animals and humans;
  • leads to the death of leaves and other parts that are already affected by the fungus. This is a necessary measure that prevents spores from infecting other leaves and branches;
  • inhibits energy metabolism in fungal cells, causing the latter to die.

This effect is achieved thanks to the action of pencycuron, a contact fungicide. It does not penetrate inside the plant, but acts externally, making this substance safer than systemic drugs that affect the plant from the inside.

The product is effective against common scab and rhizoctonia.

The insecticidal effect is achieved due to the second active ingredient – imidacloprid. Once in the body of insects, this substance blocks ion exchange in the synapses of nerve cells, which is why the animal’s body seems to “freeze”: the insect convulses or cannot move due to paralysis. As a result, the pest dies. The product is active against beetles (including Colorado potato beetles), Homoptera, Lepidoptera and thrips.

The drug has two effects: fungicidal and insecticidal

Prestige: instructions for use

Fungicide Prestige is used for pre-planting treatment of potato tubers, before germination and to provide protection for plants from the Solanaceae family. You must carefully read the instructions, including dosages.

Prestige treatment of potatoes before planting

Among the activities for growing potato crops, special attention is paid to the disinfection treatment of tubers immediately before sowing. This is also a preventive measure to prevent the emergence of infectious agents.

It also increases the protective properties of the crop. Further, it is still necessary to carry out prevention of the following diseases: fusarium, late blight, alternaria.

Consumption rates for the drug Prestige

Prestige potato processing includes the following procedures:

  • 50 ml of the drug is diluted with 500 ml of water;
  • mix everything thoroughly;
  • potato tubers are laid out on film or other material with sufficient density;
  • Spraying is carried out on one side;
  • wait until completely dry;
  • turn the tubers over;
  • carry out processing on the other side.

Attention!

It is necessary that the working composition of Prestige covers the entire surface of the tuber. This is important to follow.

Before planting, those potatoes that have been processed do not need to be cut.

The specified amount of insecticide is enough to treat 50 kg of potatoes.

Treatment before germination

The drug performed well when disinfecting potatoes before sprouting. To do this, take seed tubers for planting and process them three to four weeks in advance. The whole procedure is the same as during planting: the tubers are laid out on a material made of dense fabric and sprayed with Prestige on all sides.

Processing potatoes with Prestige

Prestige insecticide consumption rates: for 600 liters of water – 50 ml of product. Spray using a spray bottle. Only completely dried tubers are collected in boxes for germination. You can carry out the treatment while combining it with growth stimulants.

Description of the product Prestige from the manufacturer

Seedling protection

Prestige is great for crops grown in seedlings. The Colorado potato beetle likes to eat not only potatoes; it is also dangerous for tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and berry crops.

To protect the culture, make a solution of the drug in a proportion of 10 ml per 1 liter of water. Plant roots are placed in the prepared solution. Leave for at least 7-8 hours before planting.

There is another option for preparing a solution for treating the roots. It will additionally protect against insects gnawing leaves, parasites in the soil, and flukes.

A special mixture is made from the following ingredients:

  • clay – 800 g;
  • water – 1 liter;
  • compost or humus – 800 gr.

The components are mixed, making a kind of “chatter”. Separately, 20 ml of insecticide is diluted in 1 liter of water and added to the rest of the “ingredients”. Mix thoroughly again. Only the roots are immersed in the mixture. This volume of liquid is enough for the number of bushes from 30 to 40.

Attention:

It is recommended to plant tubers and treated plants directly into the soil. Otherwise, the toxic components will not act as effectively.

Advantages and disadvantages

A distinctive feature of Prestige is the long-term preservation of additives under anaerobic conditions in a neutral and slightly acidic environment, incl. in plant tissues. At the same time, with access to air and direct light, the drug hydrolyzes quite quickly, leaving no biologically or chemically active decomposition products. If in plants the half-life of Prestige is up to 70 days or more, then its traces are not detected in the soil after 3 weeks. In addition, both DV drugs (see below) have low toxicity for humans; True, one of them is highly dangerous for bees (hazard class 1), and chronic poisoning with microdoses of warm-blooded bees entails long-term negative consequences. However, for a pesticide-dresser, both of these circumstances are of little significance. In general, the complex of properties of the drug Prestige is as follows:

  1. Strong systemic activity - AI easily penetrates seeds and planting material, and from them spreads throughout all plant tissues;
  2. For the same reason, in the conditions of private household plots, i.e. with manual processing and continuous visual monitoring of the progress of the process, Prestige is suitable for treating small dry seeds of non-edible monocots;
  3. As an insecticide, Prestige is effective against almost any sucking and gnawing insects;
  4. As a fungicide, Prestige is most focused on ascomycetes, incl. on Rhizoctonia solani, which causes a dangerous potato disease - black tuber scab. Quantitative yield losses from damage by this fungus reach 15-20%, and commercial profitability is 35-50%, because diseased tubers are not stored for a long time and their selling price has to be reduced due to loss of marketability;
  5. Perhaps unexpected for the developers of the drug was its good activity against basidiomycetes (smut fungi) Ustilaginales, which also causes a very dangerous disease of cereals - smut of ears and panicles;
  6. Long period of protective action, at least 60 days;
  7. The waiting period before harvesting potatoes is the same, fruits and vegetables are 1.5 times longer;
  8. As a consequence of paragraphs. 5 and 6, the drug is applicable only for late varieties of target crops;
  9. The fungicidal component of the drug at the cellular level disrupts the biosynthesis of glucose, fatty acids and sterol (see below), but does not affect the processes in the cell nucleus and its respiration;
  10. As a consequence of paragraph 7, Prestige is ineffective against single-celled pathogens, incl. bacterial rot;
  11. The fungicidal component of Prestige has the properties of a phytostimulant that enhances flowering and accelerates the closure of nightshade rows (see figure). No significant effect on cruciferous crops was noted - the formation of the cabbage head is not accelerated, cabbage heads compared to the control ones and the yield per unit area does not noticeably increase;

  12. The migration activity of the drug in the soil is weak, and it does not have a noticeable effect on beneficial soil microfauna;
  13. As a consequence of point 11 in combination with the rapid decomposition of the active substance in the soil, dressing the tubers with a working solution of the drug is possible both by spraying the planting material and by watering the soil during planting;
  14. Due to hydrolyticity in air, the preparation is unsuitable for treating seed material for future use - planting/sowing must be carried out immediately after treatment with Prestige;
  15. Prestige in tank mixtures is compatible with most common agricultural chemicals;
  16. The sales formulation in opened packaging and the working solution cannot be stored - all purchased preparations must be used within a day after opening the container;
  17. Prestige does not have ovicidal or acaricidal activity (it affects only the feeding phases of insects and does not affect ticks);
  18. Precautionary measures and PPE for working with the drug allow it to be handled by an untrained worker;
  19. Acute poisoning with the drug is treatable and goes away without consequences.

Preparation Prestige: consumption rate for different crops

Different crops have their own individual consumption rates for Prestige.

So, for potatoes, take from 70 to 100 ml of Prestige insecticide per 1 liter of water

. The resulting solution is sufficient to process 100 kg of potato tubers.

Important!

According to the instructions for use of the drug Prestige, you should purchase 10 ml of the product for every 10 kg of seed potatoes.

For soaking before planting in a permanent place of growth of the root system of eggplants, tomatoes and cabbage, 100 ml of Prestige per 10 liters of water is required.

Processing potatoes using TABOO AND PRESTIGE means - video

To pickle the seeds of onions, carrots, cabbage you will need 10 ml per 1 liter of water

. The seeds are kept in the prepared solution for only half an hour. This procedure protects the plantings from thrips, flea beetles, and flies.

For soaking seedlings of fruit plants, take 15 ml per 1 liter of water.

. The above describes a “chatterbox” made of clay and humus. It is into this that the solution is added. The roots are placed in the liquid for 3 hours.

Mode of application

Prestige must be used strictly according to the instructions:

  • prepare a solution based on how many potatoes will be planted (you can check this by weighing the tubers or measuring them with a bucket);
  • spread a plastic sheet on a flat surface onto which to pour the vegetable;
  • spray the prepared tubers and mix them thoroughly;
  • give time to dry a little (no more than 2 or 3 hours);
  • start planting on the land.

Toxicity of Prestige

Insectofungicide Prestige belongs to hazard class III

. It is safe for humans, warm-blooded animals, and processed plants. Despite this, it is very important to follow the processing times specified in the instructions and take into account the characteristics of the crop being processed in terms of vegetation.

On a note:

In the central zone of the country, the drug Prestige is used only in the mid-season or late stages of potato harvesting. This is done to ensure that all the active substances of the insecticide are completely released by the time of harvest. In the south, it is recommended to process varieties with early and medium ripening periods.

When to use Prestige for processing potatoes

As soon as you decide on the date for sending the tubers for germination, put them in boxes and place them in a warm place, the next day you can start processing the potatoes. The advantage of the method is the formation of strong immunity in tubers.

But some gardeners use a different method and process the tubers immediately before planting them in the ground (3 hours before starting work). Processing sprouted potatoes also has an undeniable advantage - the effect of Prestige lasts several weeks longer. The main thing is to let the tubers dry before placing them in the holes.

Precautionary measures

The drug belongs to the class of low-hazard drugs. However, it is necessary to strictly observe the consumption rates so that there is no overdose, which can lead to poisoning.

Prestige treatment is carried out wearing protective clothing, gloves and a mask. After the procedure, you must thoroughly wash your face and hands, rinse your mouth, and put your clothes in the wash.

Tubers are processed on dense material or film. After complete drying, they are transferred to a permanent place of growth in bags. The treated seedlings are sorted into bags or boxes, always placing the roots down. Afterwards, the landing is carried out immediately.

Features of the product

  1. Until the moment of disintegration, the active substance of the disinfectant reliably protects the planting material from pests and diseases.
  2. If you want to use this product in combination with growth stimulants, microelements or other pesticides, you must first conduct a compatibility test.
  3. “Prestige” from the Colorado potato beetle belongs to toxicity class III, and therefore is harmful to humans. Before performing any manipulations with the concentrated suspension, you should protect your skin, mucous membranes and respiratory tract by wearing personal protective equipment.
  4. The effectiveness of the drug will depend on the uniformity of its spraying and the continuity of the spray torch.
  5. The active substance begins to work from the moment of processing.

Toxicity

“Prestige” from the Colorado potato beetle has low toxicity, as it belongs to the third class, so it can cause some harm. To avoid health problems, the following is recommended:

  • processed tubers should be packaged in protective film before transportation;
  • when processing and planting, it is necessary to follow safety rules, using preventive protective equipment: gloves and a mask;
  • “Prestige” can be used to treat potato varieties harvested in August, since the active substance will leave the tubers only 2 months after treatment;
  • if you plan to plant potatoes in the third or fourth decade of April and the “Prestige” preparation will be used to process them, then you should choose mid-late or mid-early varieties.

Important! For early varieties of potatoes, which are harvested as early as June or July, it is highly undesirable to use the Prestige dressing agent! In such a short period of time, the poison will not have time to leave the treated tubers!

Insecticide Prestige: analogues

The composition of Prestige is unique due to the presence of two active ingredients. Therefore, there are no analogues with exactly the same effect.

Insecticides:
Insecticide Confidelin Spark double effect Tabu VSK and Tabu TRIO from the Colorado potato beetle
However, there are similar products that are more affordable:

  • Aktara fungicide;
  • Confidor;
  • Mospilan;
  • Actellik.

Baktor, Rector, Tanrek are considered more similar in action.

Drug Prestige: price

The cost of the drug Prestige in specialized stores is 600 rubles per bottle (60 ml).

Prestige is an innovative, highly effective insectofungicide that works against pests such as the Colorado potato beetle, wireworm, thrips and others.

Helps with fungal infections and related diseases. The use of Prestige in agriculture greatly simplifies the work of growing fruit crops.

Chemical composition

The main component of the poison against the Colorado potato beetle Prestige is imidacloprid (one liter of Prestige contains 140 g), which is characterized by excellent contact and systemic action.

In addition, the composition also includes pencykuron . Its quantity in one bottle is 150 g. Thanks to these two components, potato tubers grow faster and become less susceptible to the effects of the Colorado potato beetle, as well as other pathogens.

Remember safety

Since Prestige is a toxic drug (albeit moderately), reasonable safety precautions when working with it, as with any other chemical, will have to be observed.

  • Before starting pickling, you need to make sure that the film on which the potatoes will be processed is not damaged.
  • During work, you should use protective equipment (for hands - gloves, for respiratory organs - a respirator, for skin - a protective suit).
  • There should be no food in the room.
  • During pre-planting treatment, you should not eat, smoke, or talk.
  • After completing this work, you must take a shower, wash your hands thoroughly using soap, and rinse your mouth.
  • If normal clothing was used during spraying rather than a protective suit, it is recommended to destroy it.
  • If the working solution gets into your eyes, rinse them thoroughly under running water.
  • If any signs of poisoning appear, you should take sorbents and go to the clinic, taking with you the instructions for the drug.

So, “Prestige” is a fairly effective preparation for pre-planting treatment of potatoes, capable of significantly increasing its yield, improving its appearance, protecting against a whole range of misfortunes. But it must be used correctly, according to the instructions and common sense: in dosages not exceeding those indicated, using personal protective equipment, maintaining the maximum time from spraying the tubers to eating the new crop.
