Insecticidal preparations are divided into intestinal, which act on the pest after entering its digestive organs, contact, which affect the insect upon contact with any of its organs, and systemic, which penetrate the tissues of the plant and poison them with a poison that kills the pests that feed on the plant. And there are drugs that use all three mechanisms to destroy parasites. They are called systemic enteric insecticides. Commander is exactly such a drug, a new drug that will be discussed in this article.

Effect of the drug Commander

A drug has been developed. It is produced in the form of a soluble concentrate in ampoules of 1.4 ml, in bottles of 10, 20, 100 ml, 1 l and in canisters of 5 l. The active component of Commander is imidacloprid, a substance from the class of chloronicotinols. When sprayed, it not only gets onto tissues and into the food system of pests, but also penetrates the plant through leaves, stems and roots. The parasites that have occupied the plant under the influence of the Commander lose the ability to move and die within 24 hours. The drug acts on both adults and larvae. It is not addictive to pests, is phytoresistant and is difficult to wash off from the plant.

Commander benefits:

  • speed, wide spectrum and duration of action;
  • high efficiency even in hot weather;
  • low consumption rate;
  • lack of resistance and phytotoxicity;
  • Possibility of use throughout the growing season (except for the flowering period).

Security and restrictions

Hazard class for humans – class 3.

Release time is 1-3 days for manual and/or mechanized processing.

Waiting time before harvest:

  • for vegetable crops (tomato, cucumber) – 3-5 days;
  • for potatoes – 20 days for treatments during the growing season;
  • wheat – up to 60 days;
  • There is no waiting period when treating planting potato tubers or corn or sunflower seeds.

“Commander” is moderately toxic to warm-blooded animals and humans and highly dangerous to bees (hazard class 1).

The manufacturer establishes a ban on the use of the pesticide in the water protection zone of water bodies. In a number of Western European countries, due to the high hazard class for bees, a complete ban has been imposed on the use of imidacloprid-based pesticides on open ground.

Instructions for use of the Commander

The feasibility of treatment by the Commander arises when the number of parasites exceeds the economic threshold of harmfulness. The dose of the drug required for a particular crop is dissolved in a small amount of water, after which the composition is brought to the required volume with constant stirring. Spraying of the freshly prepared solution is carried out in dry, windless weather before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m.

Do not prepare the solution in a container that you will later use for cooking. Apply it evenly to the above-ground parts of plants, trying to wet them on all sides. To destroy pests, one treatment with Commander is usually sufficient.

Why is the Commander so effective?

The drug contains a potent organic toxin, imidacloprid. It is thanks to it that it has such an effective effect on insects.

Imidacloprid affects the nervous system of Colorado potato beetles, causing them to die in a matter of minutes. Of course, the drug Commander also has a detrimental effect on other harmful insects, which is why it is used, for example, against aphids. It is also important that, when it gets into the ground, this product kills the harmful subsoil inhabitants there, including the larvae of the cockchafer.

Commander from the Colorado potato beetle exceeds all expectations, as gardeners write in reviews. Complete destruction of harmful insects in the treated area occurs within a maximum of one day.

First aid

The recommendations below are intended only for providing FIRST aid, after which you should immediately consult a doctor and follow his instructions! DO NOT SELF-medicate!

  • If Commander gets on your skin, blot it with a cloth or cotton wool, being careful not to rub it, then rinse the area generously with running water or a weak soda solution.
  • If the drug gets into your eyes, they should be rinsed under running water for 15 minutes, keeping them open.
  • If the drug gets into your lungs, go out into fresh air, catch your breath, then wash, change clothes and consult a doctor.
  • If the Commander gets into the digestive organs, drink two or three glasses of water with activated carbon at the rate of 1 g of carbon per 1 kg of body and induce vomiting. If you lose consciousness, you must not induce vomiting!
  • After providing first aid, you should in any case consult a doctor.

Impact principle

The drug Komandor is a concentrate and cannot be used in its pure form. To combat harmful insects, you should prepare an aqueous solution of this drug according to the norm - as indicated on the bottle in the instructions for its use.

This solution, getting on the foliage or tops of potatoes, is quickly absorbed. In essence, the entire plant becomes poisonous for the duration of exposure to the drug. Imidacloprid, which is lethal to the Colorado potato beetle, dissolves in the sap of the plant; the beetles are forced to feed on this poisoned sap. Once in the insect’s body, the poison quickly neutralizes all vital functions of the insect, as it affects its nervous system.

Advantages of the drug Commander

  1. The strength of the impact does not depend on the ambient temperature or weather. It is equally effective in hot weather and in pouring rain.
  2. The product does not cause hydrolysis, although it is used as an aqueous solution.
  3. The drug is not washed off by rain.
  4. Quickly affects pests.
  5. The validity period is quite long.

As you already understand, Commander is not a contact drug, but a systemic one. Therefore, one treatment of the area is usually enough to ensure that pests no longer appear on it before harvesting.

Precautionary measures

The drug Commander is a poison, has a third class of danger, so it should be used carefully, although it is easy to use. Instructions for safe handling are always included and should be read carefully.

Here we will simply say that you need to wear protective clothing, rubber gloves, and goggles when working with this substance. When spraying an area with a spray bottle, be sure to wear a respirator.

It is important to know that this product is dangerous for bees.

Reviews

Igor: used Commander for the Colorado potato beetle on potatoes. In the morning, all the beetles were belly up. The larvae and eggs also died. It’s good that I managed to carry out the treatment before flowering.

Anna: The beetles on the potatoes are tormented: don’t re-collect them! The neighbor in the stairwell advised the Commander. To be honest, I don’t really trust other people’s experience, because I have my own, but there were too many pests, so it still needed to be treated with something. The drug coped with both beetles and larvae. I won’t say that it is better than other insecticides, but it’s certainly not worse, because not every poison kills larvae, and after Confidor there were none left.

  • Two proven preparations for healthy seedlings - how to prevent pests and diseases from appearing on seedlings?

Alexander: I bought the Commander last year to kill the beetles. And in this case I used it against aphids and whiteflies. Now the area is in complete order.

Purpose

“Commander” insecticide is primarily used to protect potatoes from the Colorado potato beetle and vegetable crops in protected and open ground from whiteflies and aphids. It is also used to cultivate pastures and meadows.

“Commander” is also used for treating planting potato tubers from wireworms and planting seeds of corn, sunflower, etc. The line of preparations includes a special drug “Commander Plus” for special treatment of potato tubers before planting to protect against wireworms, mole crickets and Colorado potato beetles, enhanced with a stimulant .

Product effectiveness

The high effectiveness of the drug “Commander” is ensured by the active substance imidacloprid. It belongs to neonicotinoids - strong organic poisons. The share of the active substance in the produced drug is 200 g per 1 liter.

As a result of the action of imidacloprid, a systemic failure in the transmission of nerve signals occurs in the pest’s body. At first, the insects go into convulsions, then irreversible paralysis occurs, after which the pests die. Complete cleansing of treated crops occurs within a day or less.

“Commander” is also effective in combating pests living inside the soil: beet chips, click beetles and other species.

Advantages and disadvantages

“Commander” is a chemical poison with its pros and cons.

Advantages of the product:

  1. Stable, easy to use.
  2. Protects crops from diseases, suitable for prevention.
  3. Accelerates the development and growth of plants.
  4. Effective against larvae and adults.
  5. Does not cause addiction to the active substance.
  6. Long-term effect – up to a month.
  7. Affordable price.

The disadvantages include:

  1. Moderately toxic to humans.
  2. The product is dangerous for bees, fish, and birds that feed on insects.
  3. If personal safety rules are not followed, the insecticide can harm human health.

If you follow the instructions, the drug will not cause harm, it will only bring benefit.

Compatibility with other drugs and analogues

Commander can be used in conjunction with other drugs, even those with similar effects. Its effect is not reduced by joint treatment of the crop with growth regulators, other fungicides and insecticides. The fungicide should be used with caution only in combination with drugs that give an alkaline reaction. Alkali reduces the effect of the main substance, which significantly reduces the effectiveness of the treatment.

Commander has several analogues on the market:

  • Anti-Colorado;
  • Youombardir Aqua;
  • Confidor extra.

If the Commander himself could not be found in the store, then he can easily be replaced by the above means, and the culture will be saved. The preparations have insecticidal properties and will help destroy even large colonies of beetles.

Personal protective measures

Commander is combined with many other insecticides.

Spraying with “Commander” should be done with gloves, goggles, protective clothing and a respirator or gauze bandage. When processing plants, it is necessary to remove children and pets from the area of influence of the drug. When working with the drug, it is prohibited to drink, eat and smoke. Do not use food containers to prepare the solution.

After finishing working with the drug, you should rinse your glasses, boots and gloves with running water. The remaining solution must be diluted with water and poured down the drain or into a specially designated place. Empty insecticide containers should be burned. After this you need to take a shower and change clothes.

Preparation of working fluid

How to prepare the Commander working solution:

  • ingredients should be mixed in a container not intended for cooking;
  • pour a couple of liters of water into it;
  • then add a measured amount of the drug according to the instructions;
  • the solution is thoroughly mixed;
  • then add the rest of the liquid and mix again;
  • the solution is ready for use;
  • The foliage is moistened with this product evenly and quite generously.

    Full description of the insecticide

    The action of the Commander is based on a special substance – imidacloprid. After applying the product to plants, it accumulates inside for 2 hours, and the effectiveness itself lasts for a period of 21 to 30 days. The insects eat the poison along with the green leafy mass, and then after a few hours complete paralysis occurs in the beetle’s intestines, causing the pest to immediately die. Most of the beetles die during processing. There is no need to repeat the process.

    The insecticide is effective against both mature individuals and their eggs. To completely get rid of the Colorado potato beetle, it will take from a couple of days to several weeks, it all depends on the scale of the infestation and the number of colonies. In addition to the Colorado potato beetle, with the help of the Commander you can fight several other types of pests:

    • whiteflies;
    • fleas;
    • flies;
    • aphids;
    • leaf roller;
    • bedbugs;
    • wireworm;
    • thrips;
    • whitefly.

    The following crops are treated with the Commander:

    • pumpkin;
    • root vegetables;
    • Solanaceae;
    • legumes;
    • cereals.

    In addition to the destruction of various pests, the product has a protective ability. The composition contains nutritional components - minerals. They accelerate the germination of the crop, promote its active growth and further development. Even if the plant has already been attacked by the Colorado potato beetle, but was treated in a timely manner, the negative effect of the pest on the crop will be minimal.

    In what form is the product produced?

    produces the drug “Commander” in the form of a liquid emulsion concentrate, sealed in ampoules and vials.

    The ampoule and bottle are placed in blisters with detailed instructions for use and a recipe for preparing the solution, and safety measures for working with the drug are also indicated.

    The capacity suggested by the manufacturer is as follows:

    • ampoule 1 ml;
    • bottle 10 ml.

    Such dosages are produced both for the needs of those who have a relatively small area of vegetable crops, and for vegetable farmers with large farmland.

    For your information! The “Commander” drug, in addition to treating potatoes, is designed to protect other planted vegetables - tomatoes, cucumbers, as well as ornamental plants and flowers.
