For those who are looking for a systemic insecticide with a wide spectrum of action, the material prepared by our specialists will be of interest. In this article we will describe the properties of the drug Tanrek produced by the Russian company August, which has proven itself well among both professionals and amateur gardeners.

Action of Tanrek

The active component of Tanrek is imidacloprid, which belongs to the class of neonicotinoids. Imidacloprid penetrates into plant tissues, as a result, pests feeding on these tissues cease their locomotor and feeding activity and die within 24 hours. Tanrek destroys both adults and larvae of pests at different stages of development. The period of protective action of the drug is from two to four weeks.

Analogs of Tanrek to one degree or another are the drugs Biotlin Bau, Zubr, Imidor, Kalash, Confidor, Corado, Prestige, Monsoon, Confidelin and Commander.

Using the drug in accordance with the instructions does not harm the treated plants, and alternating Tanrek with other drugs guarantees the absence of resistance.

Advantages and disadvantages

Tanrek is part of the group of insecticides with intestinal and contact action. Judging by the reviews, it has proven to be an effective drug, especially in cases of large insect infestations on agricultural land.

Advantages:

  • fast action (after 3-4 hours the plants become poisonous to pests), after 24-26 hours – death of insects;
  • 100% destruction of insects;
  • the drug actively “works” against individuals that are located on the underside of the leaf;
  • effective regardless of weather conditions and temperature indicators;
  • Tanrek has no resistance, which allows its use, subject to the rules, for a number of years in one area;
  • there is no phototoxicity (subject to compliance with dosages and volumes of consumption);
  • can be used for treating soil, as well as for soaking seed material;
  • Sharing with Fitosporin is acceptable.

The product can be used for treatments using aviation (relevant for planting on an industrial scale). The insecticide provides protection for up to two to three weeks, while the consumption rates are insignificant.

Toxicity

Tanrek is a moderately dangerous substance for humans and warm-blooded animals (hazard class 3). The drug has a hazard class of 2 in terms of stability in soil, and a hazard class of 1 in terms of danger to bees. This means that during processing a protective zone of at least 5 kilometers must be observed, and flight must be limited to at least 12 hours. The drug is low-toxic for fish - it has a hazard class of 2: Tanrek is allowed for use in fishery zones, but the drug is toxic for birds and earthworms.

Reviews

Andreev: Tanrek is the best remedy for controlling aphids on currants: the pests curl the leaves, and treatment with other drugs is ineffective, but Tanrek copes because it is a systemic drug.

Natalya: I would not say that Tanrek does not drip from the leaves of plants. It still drips, especially from the pubescent ones. But the drug is good, so I add flea shampoo to the solution, which helps Tanrek deal with ticks: I drop 5 ml of shampoo onto a bucket of working solution.

Nikolai: I don’t know a better remedy for the Colorado potato beetle, although I’ve tried everything in my life. Unfortunately, in rainy summers you have to treat potatoes more than once, because the drug is washed off. But next year I will add an adhesive to the working solution. Let's see how it turns out.

Irina: I poisoned the red lily beetle with Tanrek, which was disfiguring the leaves of the lilies, and there was no mention of my pest on the packaging in the instructions. However, the drug worked perfectly.

Tatyana: It’s not true that one treatment with Tanrek per season is enough. Especially during the rainy season. But the drug copes with the beetle better than all other products that I have used in the potato field year after year. So for now Tanrek is a champion for me.

When to treat plants

I spray the plants in dry, windless weather, in the morning or evening. During the growing season. It is recommended to carry out the treatment in special protection: gloves and a mask, avoiding contact of the solution on open areas of the body.

Sometimes it is necessary to re-treat plants in one season (the action lasts for 2-3 weeks).

Characteristics of the product

Tanrek is a drug that penetrates the plant tissue and accumulates in it.
Insects die when the active substance enters the intestines when eating leaves or in contact with them. The drug contains imidacloprid. It consists of one chemical component. The chemical affects not only the Colorado potato beetle, but also many other gnawing insects. The drug is produced in the form of ampoules of 1 or 2 ml. In the form of plastic bottles of 10, 20, 100 ml. In large containers for use on large plots of land.

Tanrek is used for all nightshade crops, indoor plants, garden flowers, and woody fruit plants.

Adviсe

Experienced gardeners advise alternating different insecticides so as not to cause addiction among pests. It is imperative to observe safety precautions; only one person carries out the work and uses protective equipment.

The insecticide should not be used during the flowering season of plants, as it is deadly to bees. If sprayed during bee season, it can cause the entire hive to die out. In addition, there are plants that need pollination, which means they will remain barren flowers.

You should also not spray insecticide very close to bodies of water, as it can lead to the death of fish. You cannot combine Tanrek with alkaline and acidic drugs, only with those that have a neutral pH reaction.

Tools that will work effectively when combined include:

  • Topaz.
  • Arrivo.
  • Omite.
  • Horus.

When preparing the working solution, you also need to adhere to safety measures; all work is carried out outdoors, there should be no children, animals or birds nearby. In case of contact with the skin, it is necessary to remove the solution from the skin with a cotton pad, and wash the area well with soap and water. If symptoms of poisoning appear, immediately call an ambulance.

Combination with other insecticides

With prolonged use of Tanrek, it causes insects to become addicted to the active substance. It is recommended to combine it with other insecticides. They are mixed together in one container or used separately. In this case, the effectiveness of the drug is much higher.

Tanrek is also combined with fungicidal compositions. This provides additional plant protection. In addition to protecting against pests, potatoes are protected from infections. Any treatments are carried out at the beginning of the growing season and are completed 3 weeks before harvest.

Analogs

Neonicotinoids are found in varying proportions in some other drugs:

  • Biotlin;
  • The spark is golden.

Analogs include:

  • Confidor is a product from Bayer, a wettable powder used against pests;
  • Prestige - contains two components (imidacloprid and pencycuron), a disinfectant.
  • Bison – insecticide against larvae and adults of the Colorado potato beetle;
  • Kalash is an insecticide based on imidacloprid, characterized by a prolonged action;
  • Tabu is an anti-wireworm treatment that is also effective against the Colorado potato beetle.
